Discover Treat Trail Characters at Oogie Boogie Bash

Chocolate candy, signature sweets, and plenty of sinister surprises are surely some of the things to look forward to at Oogie Boogie Bash, but everyone knows that the villainous treat trail characters are the true stars of the show!

Whether you’re waiting to roll the dice on an opportunity to see Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in Hollywood Land or sing a secret song with Ernesto de la Cruz from Pixar Animation Studios’ Coco near the Hyperion Theater, there are so many legendary Disney villains that you will only be able to spot at California Adventure during Oogie Boogie Bash!

Joining this dastardly lineup in 2025 are Syndrome from Pixar’s The Incredibles and Maleficent from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Sleeping Beauty, bringing chilling charm and frightening flair to this eerie event. There are a ton of highlights from start to finish, but my favorite part of the show is when select characters from Haunted Mansion begin to materialize, as swirling ballroom dancers, ominous gravediggers, and a trio of hitchhiking ghosts get ready for a swinging wake with silly spooks and ghoulish delight. Look alive and come out to socialize during this can’t-miss parade!

The wait is over! Magic Kingdom has officially kicked off the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of 2025, and we were there to experience all the ghoulish fun. Despite some initial crowd-related hiccups, the night was a resounding success, packed with thrilling entertainment, classic characters, and plenty of Halloween spirit.

A Wait for the Pumpkin King and His Queen

The first night of the party is always a highly anticipated event, and that was especially true for the meet-and-greet with Jack Skellington and Sally. The posted wait time was 115 minutes, but as is often the case with popular characters, the reality was much longer, stretching to nearly four hours.

While the wait was a bit of a disappointment, the chance to see the beloved duo was worth it, and we were determined not to let it ruin our night.

Characters and Candy Galore

Once we got our wristbands, we dived into the festivities. We found that lines for other characters were much more manageable. We spotted a number of fan favorites, including the Evil Queen, Maleficent, Winnie the Pooh and friends, Cruella, and even a rocking Elvis Stitch. The trick-or-treating trails were a blast, and we enjoyed filling our bags with a variety of sweet treats.

Thrills, Chills, and Entertainment

The entertainment at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party never disappoints. The “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” stage show, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, was a hit.

We also caught “Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular” fireworks, a show hosted by Jack Skellington that features dancing skeletons, waltzing ghosts, and a sinister gathering of Disney villains, all set to an incredible display of fireworks and lasers.

A Villainous Debut

Our absolute favorite part of the night, as always, was “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade.” The parade is a true spectacle, and this year it had an exciting new addition.

Mother Gothel from “Tangled” made her debut on the villains’ float, and it was a thrill to see her join the cavalcade of baddies. This new addition, along with the classic Gravediggers and the Haunted Mansion Ballroom Dancers, made for an unforgettable viewing experience.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark Returns for Halloween Time

Get ready for a thrilling Halloween adventure at Disney California Adventure Park, as “Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark” is set to make its highly anticipated return. While the official start date is August 22, some sharp-eyed guests have already noticed a few curious signs that this seasonal overlay might be arriving even sooner than expected.

guardians galaxy

Every year for Halloween Time, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! gets a spooky seasonal overlay. After 3:00 PM, the attraction transforms into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. This terrifying, pulse-pounding adventure is filled with frantic music, dark humor, and a creepier tone than usual.

A Fiendishly Frightening Escape
Get ready for a chaotic mission! When the Collector’s Fortress goes into complete pandemonium, Groot gets left behind. Rocket needs you to go back in to help him rescue Groot from the monstrous creatures now roaming the halls. This pulse-pounding, high-energy mission is filled with dark humor, frantic music, and menacing monsters.

While it is still a family-friendly ride, Monsters After Dark is more intense than its daytime counterpart. Expect jump scares, unsettling growls, and glimpses of snarling creatures. With its heavy metal soundtrack and chaotic visuals, the ride may be frightening for younger guests.

after dark

Here’s where things get interesting: despite the official start date for Monsters After Dark being more than a week away, the Disneyland app and website are already listing the attraction. The listings show the ride’s operating hours and even a Lightning Lane option for yesterday, suggesting the spooky seasonal overlay might be arriving earlier than planned.

First Look: Halloween Decorations at Disney California Adventure

Halloween Time has arrived at Disney California Adventure! The park has been transformed with festive decorations, including grinning jack-o’-lanterns, bewitching banners, and other eerie embellishments.

The centerpiece of the spooky makeover is a giant Oogie Boogie looming over the park’s entrance. The park’s lands have also gotten into the spirit, with Cars Land becoming Radiator Screams, complete with “car-stumes” on the characters and spooky decorations.

Purple banners and black bats decorate Buena Vista Street and even the Red Car Trolley has been decorated this year! Orange silhouettes of trick-or-treaters can be seen in the windows along with a Mars Wrigley advertisement.

horseman

The Headless Horseman statue has also returned to the end of Buena Vista Street. He carries his jack-o-lantern head in his hand. Be sure to check out the statue at night for some spooky sights and sounds.

cars land

Cars Land is the most decorated land in Disney California Adventure. Radiator Screams is ready for the spooky season!

The land is filled with imaginative touches, from traffic cones shaped like jack-o’-lanterns and scare-crows made from car parts to massive spiderwebs and spooky monster eyes peering from various buildings. The Halloween makeover also extends to the attractions, with Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becoming Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters turning into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, complete with new Halloween-themed music and lighting effects. At night, the land’s neon signs glow with an eerie purple and green light, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

Disney World Files Construction Permit for Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Prepares for Construction

Walt Disney World has filed a new construction permit for its Animal Kingdom Lodge, signaling potential upcoming changes or enhancements to the popular resort. While the permit doesn’t specify the exact nature of the work, these filings are often the first public indicator of new projects, from minor renovations to significant expansions.

On August 11, 2025, a Notice of Commencement for “General construction” was filed for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. The permit, which lists the address as 2901 Osceola Parkway, indicates that JCQ Services, Inc. has been contracted for the project. This company specializes in services such as carpentry and general demolition, suggesting the upcoming work could involve structural changes or significant interior alterations to the resort.

This newly filed construction permit is almost certainly connected to the previously announced, multi-phase refurbishment of Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney has already confirmed a months-long room renovation project for both Kidani Village and Jambo House, with the work scheduled to begin this October at Kidani Village and then move to Jambo House in May 2026. Additionally, the Zebra Trail terrace at Jambo House is currently undergoing its own refurbishment, a project that is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Like other construction permits filed by Disney, this notice has an expiration date of one year, set for August 11, 2026, which aligns with the timeline for the extensive renovations planned for the resort.
