Thomas Mazloum Tapped to Succeed Josh D’Amaro as Chairman of Disney Experiences

Disney Experiences has unveiled a new leadership structure designed to steer the division through a period of “unprecedented growth,” according to Josh D’Amaro, the segment’s current Chairman and incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company. At the forefront of this transition is Thomas Mazloum, who will succeed D’Amaro as Chairman of Disney Experiences. Mazloum will now oversee a sprawling global portfolio that includes theme parks, the Disney Cruise Line, consumer products, and the creative power of Walt Disney Imagineering.

leadership

Mazloum’s ascent to Chairman is backed by decades of operational expertise and a storied career that spans luxury hospitality and maritime excellence. Before joining Disney, he honed his leadership skills in European high-end hotels and served as COO of Crystal Cruise Line. Since joining Disney, he has been a driving force behind major expansions, notably as President of Disney Signature Experiences, where he spearheaded the plan to double the Disney Cruise Line fleet—a vision that culminated in the recent Singapore launch of the Disney Adventure.

Most recently, Mazloum led the Disneyland Resort through its milestone 70th Anniversary as President. “Thomas is an exceptional leader with a genuine appreciation for our cast and a proven track record of delivering growth,” D’Amaro noted, citing Mazloum’s unique blend of service excellence and international perspective as the key to guiding Disney’s $60 billion expansion plan.

Imagineers are used to starting with a blank canvas. But sometimes, magic is built upon foundation—like the storied legacy of Disney Cruise Line. In the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering, set sail on the Disney Adventure as Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment put the final touches on entertainment offerings, immersive spaces, and so much more!

The Disney Adventure is the newest chapter in a storied legacy of Disney Cruise Line, which began in the 1990’s when Disney Legend and former Imagineer Wing Chao was tasked with designing cruise ships that were classic, modern, and—most importantly—distinctly Disney.

imagineering

For the first time, Imagineers worked to fit iconic Disney stories into an existing ship and bring that ship to a new market, Singapore. The project team spent months researching the local market to ensure the stories resonated with guests in the region. Imagineers saw this as the perfect opportunity to build our first castle at sea, offering theme park-level storytelling and Disney magic to new audiences.

Every Disney Cruise Line ship is a showcase of technical ingenuity, featuring groundbreaking entertainment, immersive environments, and pioneering technology. From Marvel’s first rollercoaster at sea to multimedia dining and world-class stage shows, the Disney Adventure is the most innovative ship ever to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

And the journey doesn’t stop here—Disney Cruise Line will grow to thirteen ships by 2031, with five new ships in all stages of development. See how Imagineers are redefining what’s possible on the water in the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering: Set Sail!

Inside the Contemporary Resort’s Easter Eggs Featuring the Muppets

This year, the Muppets take center stage at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for the annual chocolate Easter egg showcase. Located in the lobby near Steakhouse 71, these highly detailed showpieces—meticulously designed by the resort’s pastry chefs—offer a sweet and nostalgic tribute to Jim Henson’s iconic characters.

contemporary resort

It’s a sensational Muppet tribute! Dominating the center of the display is the divine Miss Piggy, created with incredible detail by Cast Member Erick and accented by blooming roses and twin egg-shaped lamps. To her side, Statler and Waldorf look on from their famous theater box, while a gallery of Muppet eggs fills the iconic archways inspired by the show’s opening credits.

The legendary hecklers, Statler and Waldorf, were brought to life by Cast Members Brandi, Carisa, Donald, and Desirey, seated in a regal red booth accented with gold trim and velvet-style curtains. Behind them, a gallery of Muppet favorites—including Sam Eagle, Sweetums, Kermit, and the Swedish Chef—fills the display.

These intricate designs utilize fondant and icing to achieve delicate details like the filigree on the archways and Sam Eagle’s patriotic hat. This collaborative effort featured Sam by Molly; Sweetums by Taurea and Clay; and Kermit and the Swedish Chef by Hannah (with Clay assisting on Kermit). Finishing out the ensemble, Clay crafted Fozzie and Animal, while Desirey meticulously designed the duo of Beaker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue arrived at Tomorrowland’s Star Tours backstage area around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday following reports of an “unknown odor,” according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Matt Sutter. Disneyland officials later confirmed the reaction was caused by building materials used by a third-party contractor.

The incident resulted in seven cast members being hospitalized for dizziness and shortness of breath, while several others were treated and released on-site. As a precaution, Disney cleared guests from adjacent areas, including the evacuation of Space Mountain and the closure of the Star Traders gift shop. While park-goers documented the closures on social media, no guests reported symptoms. All affected attractions and shops resumed normal operations by 3:00 p.m.

New Space Mountain-Style Marquee Installed at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom

Buzz Lightyear is getting a fresh new launch pad in Tomorrowland. Disney has installed a brand-new marquee at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom as refurbishment work on the attraction continues ahead of its planned spring 2026 reopening.

The new entrance sign features a sleek white spire design that closely resembles the iconic marquee used at Space Mountain nearby. Mounted to the center of the spire will be the main Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction sign, though the lettering has not yet been installed. Beneath the sign structure, digital wait time clocks for both the standby queue and Lightning Lane are already in place.

Construction walls still surround the entrance area while crews finish installing the updated signage and continue work on new concrete flooring in front of the attraction. The installation follows the removal of the previous marquee earlier this year as part of the ongoing refurbishment.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed since August 2025 for a major overhaul designed to modernize the classic Tomorrowland shooter attraction. When it reopens, guests can expect new scenes, upgraded ride vehicles, and improved gameplay technology.

Among the biggest upgrades are redesigned Star Command-inspired ride vehicles featuring onboard screens that display real-time scores. The attraction will also introduce handheld blasters replacing the original fixed cannons, allowing riders to aim more freely. These new blasters will include vibration feedback, sound effects, and visible laser beams to help players track their shots.

Interactive targets throughout the ride are also being upgraded to react more clearly when hit, lighting up and providing better gameplay feedback. Disney Imagineers have also reworked the opening sequence to introduce a new support robot named Buddy, while the hyperspace tunnel will feature updated projection technology showcasing Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg.

Disney has not yet announced an official reopening date for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin beyond a general spring 2026 timeframe, but the installation of the new marquee suggests the attraction is getting closer to welcoming Space Rangers back to Tomorrowland.

Deputies Arrest Woman After Child Left Unattended at Universal CityWalk

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the CW Shoreline Bar around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after staff and patrons noticed a 12-year-old girl sitting alone at the bar. Authorities said the child appeared visibly upset and was crying while sitting on a bar stool without an adult present.

Investigators say the girl told deputies that her mother, identified as 33-year-old Amanda Thorpe of Lake Mary, had brought her to the bar while already intoxicated. According to the arrest affidavit, an argument occurred after someone at the bar said something that upset Thorpe. When the child told her mother she wanted to return to their hotel room because she was tired, deputies say Thorpe became angry, made an obscene gesture, and left the CW Shoreline Bar without her daughter.

Hold onto your cowboy hats, CityWalk is about to get a little more country and a whole lot louder. 🎸🌪️ Today, Opry Entertainment Group and Grand Ole Opry member Luke Combs announced plans to bring Category 10 to Universal CityWalk Orlando at Universal Orlando Resort, with an opening targeted for late 2027. “I have a line in my song ‘1, 2 Many,’ ‘there’s no stopping me once I get goin’. Well, I guess you can say the same about Cat 10 now,” Combs shared. With Orlando being a global vacation hotspot and his wife hailing from Florida, the country superstar said bringing his brand to the Sunshine State feels extra special. Expect first class service, awesome tunes, and a little Carolina soul mixed into the Florida fun.

Deputies later located Thorpe at the nearby Red Coconut Club inside CityWalk, where she was reportedly seen dancing with an alcoholic drink in her hand. According to the affidavit, Thorpe told investigators she believed the girl had been with her the entire time. However, deputies noted signs of intoxication, including red and bloodshot eyes, difficulty maintaining balance, and the smell of alcohol on her breath.

Thorpe was taken into custody and now faces a charge of child neglect. The incident occurred within the CityWalk area at Universal Orlando Resort, which features restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues outside the theme parks.

Pink Nearly Gone From Cinderella Castle as Magic Kingdom Restores Original Colors

Cinderella Castle is looking a little less rosy these days. The final traces of the pink paint added for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration are quickly disappearing as crews continue restoring the Magic Kingdom icon to its more traditional color scheme.

During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, only a handful of pink sections remained visible on the castle. Most of the pastel rose tones that once covered the towers and upper walls have now been repainted in soft gray, returning the structure closer to the classic look guests remember from before the anniversary makeover. Crews were seen working high above the hub in lift vehicles, focusing on the tallest central tower and areas surrounding the castle clock.

A few stubborn patches of pink can still be spotted near the top of the castle and around the upper tower walls. This includes the area where Tinker Bell begins her nightly flight during the Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular. Some sections around the balcony and the back side of the castle also still show pink paint for now, but those areas are expected to be repainted soon as work continues.

The gold accents added during the 50th anniversary transformation are also being toned down as part of the restoration. In several places, the decorative trim and gargoyle details are being repainted in light gray to match the castle’s returning color palette. In some spots, guests can see the transition happening in real time with one side already gray while the other side still shines in gold.

The repainting project also includes refreshing other elements of the castle, including portions of the lower structure and the royal blue rooftops that crown the iconic towers. As the work wraps up, Cinderella Castle will once again reflect the more traditional color scheme guests remember from years past.

For fans who loved the bold anniversary look, the pink castle may soon be just a memory. But for those who prefer the classic fairytale palette, the Magic Kingdom’s centerpiece is nearly back to its original storybook style.

Get ready to “dance your cares away,” because a brand-new sneaker collaboration celebrating one of Jim Henson’s most beloved creations is officially on the way. Fans of classic puppetry and vibrant 80s nostalgia will want to lace up for this one: Bull Airs has just pulled back the curtain on its upcoming Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock sneaker collection.

This lineup isn’t just a tribute; it’s a high-energy explosion of color and texture that captures the playful spirit of the iconic series that first premiered in 1983.

A Whimsical Walk Through the Caves

The designs draw deep inspiration from the whimsical world of Fraggle Rock. Each pair in the collection is meticulously crafted to reflect the underground dwellers we know and love. You can expect:

  • Bold Color Palettes: Vibrant pinks, yellows, and blues that mirror the Fraggles’ own fur and tufted hair.
  • Textured Materials: Use of suedes, faux-furs, and layered fabrics that mimic the “fuzzy” aesthetic of a Jim Henson puppet.
  • Character-Themed Details: Subtle and overt nods to the core gang—Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, and Red.

Whether you’re exploring the Gorgs’ garden or just heading to the grocery store, these shoes feel like they stepped right out of the Fraggle caves and into the real world.

The Henson Connection: From Fraggles to Muppets

For longtime fans of Jim Henson’s work, this collaboration is a nostalgic reminder of the creative legacy that links Fraggle Rock to another franchise Disney fans know by heart: The Muppet Show.

While the Fraggles debuted in 1983 and the Muppets in 1976, both share the same creative DNA of humor, music, and heartfelt storytelling. This connection makes the Bull Airs drop particularly interesting for Disney enthusiasts. Though Disney acquired the Muppets in 2004, the Jim Henson Company retained the rights to the Fraggles. Despite living under different corporate roofs, the “Henson Style” remains unmistakable.

Note: The same spirit of innovation found in these sneakers can be seen in Disney Parks attractions like MuppetVision 3D* and the rumored Muppet-centric transformations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Construction Walls Up at the Grand Floridian Monorail Station During Ongoing Resort Refurbishment

Guests visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will notice a bit of “pixie dust in progress” as construction continues around the resort’s monorail station. The white-themed construction walls wrap around the entire underside of the elevated monorail platform, enclosing scaffolding and work areas where crews appear to be performing structural and refurbishment work. From the outside, guests can see scaffolding reaching up toward the station platform while workers use lifts to access sections of the building. Protective sheeting has also been installed along parts of the station balcony as crews continue repairs and upgrades to the iconic Victorian-style structure.

Inside the covered arrival area, the walls guide foot traffic around the construction zone while still allowing access to the resort entrance, bell services, and guest parking areas. Several “Pardon our Pixie Dust, This Area is Closed” signs are posted along the barriers. Despite the construction footprint, the monorail station itself remains operational, and guests can still board the Resort Monorail line to Magic Kingdom and the nearby resorts.

Outside the station, the construction walls stretch around the stairways and along the walkway near the monorail beam. The project appears focused on refreshing and maintaining the elevated station infrastructure while keeping the surrounding resort operations running smoothly.
