Guest Arrested After Failing to Pay Bill at Walt Disney World Swan Resort

A business trip at Walt Disney World’s Swan Resort ended in handcuffs for one guest after he allegedly failed to settle a multi-thousand-dollar hotel bill.

According to court records from Orange County, 26-year-old Justin Isaiah Lara of New York checked into the Swan Resort on June 13, 2025, and stayed until June 23. During that time, his room racked up an outstanding balance of $2,220.59. Hotel managers told deputies that the credit card provided—under the name “Brian Smith”—was flagged as fraudulent, and multiple other attempted card charges were declined.

Security manager Steve English provided a sworn statement to deputies, pressing charges on behalf of the Swan Resort. Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lara could not provide another form of payment, claiming his employer, a company he identified as “CHUCO” based out of New York, was responsible for covering the bill. Lara told deputies he was in town for a convention and believed his boss had already handled the charges.

When deputies attempted to reach the supposed employer by phone, no one answered. With Lara registered as the sole guest for the room and unable to pay, deputies placed him under arrest for grand theft by fraud.

The arrest affidavit also notes that when hotel staff inventoried Lara’s luggage for safekeeping, they reported finding multiple fake IDs, blank checks, and other suspicious items, which were turned over to authorities.

Lara was booked into the Orange County Jail on June 23, 2025, and now faces felony charges. He was subsequently released on a $2,500 bond.

Celebrating 30 Years of Toy Story: The Film That Changed Animation Forever

When Toy Story premiered on November 12, 1995, it did more than just revolutionize animation. The film was a lightning-in-a-bottle moment for its creative team—from its animators to its first production intern—laying the groundwork for Pixar to become the powerhouse studio it is today. At the time, no one knew how much of a game-changer the movie would be.

flying

When Disney offered a $26 million deal to produce three features, Pixar’s small team—initially just three animators—had to decide on their first project. They pitched three ideas: two based on existing children’s books and a “half-baked” idea about a couple of toys. Disney chose the one about the toys.

At the time, Pixar had only created a few commercials and shorts, so the pressure was on to deliver. Despite this, the team’s approach was more experimental than stressful. As Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter recalls, “It felt like a bunch of people making a movie in their garage.” The team was still figuring things out, and the process felt like they were simply doing it for fun.

Taking the Story to Infinity… and Beyond!

According to Docter, the collegiate environment inspired everyone to pitch in and take risks. But one of the biggest stumbling blocks — an infamous Black Friday screening with Disney executives prior to the start of animation — almost got the entire project canceled. The team had two weeks to turn things around, and they worked overtime to make the necessary changes. Once the story issues were resolved, the team turned their attention to the two toys at the center of the film: Woody, a pull-string cowboy sheriff voiced by Tom Hanks, and Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger action figure voiced by Disney Legend Tim Allen.

“Beyond using new technology, one of the things we tried to do was expand the boundaries of storytelling,” Docter recalled. “Because at that point, if a film was animated, it was assumed that it was a musical, that it would have certain tropes. We didn’t want to do that.”

Woody, for example, was written to be loyal, protective, and witty. But filmmakers wanted to make him more multidimensional. “He has a fear of being replaced,” said Rivera, who is now Pixar’s Executive Vice President of Production. “Everyone has felt that way at some point, whether it’s a job or a relationship. And we wrapped it up in this Toy Story package.”

The filmmakers imbued their own personalities and quirks into the characters, which is why they felt real — and why they resonated with audiences of all ages, all around the world. “I’m partial to Woody, simply because I’ve written most of what he has to say in the films,” said Stanton, now Pixar’s Vice President of Creative. “He is very much an extension of me.”

A Look Back at Pixar's Groundbreaking Film Toy Story for 30th Anniversary

Docter added, “The funny thing with Toy Story, and Woody specifically, is that there just seemed to be a lot of layers, a lot new discoveries to him. Even on the first film, we could sense that he had a history. Woody has some trauma — some baggage that he’s carrying.”

Audiences instantly clicked with Woody and Buzz, as well as Hamm, the know-it-all piggybank voiced by John Ratzenberger; Rex, the fearful Tyrannosaurus voiced by Wallace Shawn; Bo Peep, the porcelain shepherdess figurine voiced by Annie Potts; and all of the other toys. “The idea of toys coming to life always clicked with audiences,” Rivera said. “It was as if they collectively said, ‘Of course! This confirms what I always thought about toys.”’

Just the Beginning

When Toy Story was released in theaters, it was an immediate and sustained sensation, generating nearly $400 million at the global box office. Toy Story became the highest-grossing film of the year and, in the decades that followed, inspired sequels, shorts, specials, and spinoffs. (Toy Story 5 is in production, releasing in theaters on June 19, 2026.) What’s more, the characters and stories became fixtures at Disney Parks around the world.

Because toys are “kind of perennial,” Stanton explained, the franchise is “something you can grow with. People who watched it as kids became parents and now watch it with their kids. We’ve created a world and a group of characters that could easily keep going forever.”

A Look Back at Pixar's Groundbreaking Film Toy Story for 30th Anniversary

In celebration of Toy Story‘s 30th anniversary, fans have the unique chance to experience the groundbreaking animated adventure on the big screen in its original format — and, for the first time ever, in 4DX — for a limited engagement beginning Friday, September 12.

“I just have to say thank you to the fans for loving this world as much as we do,” said Stanton, who contributed to each film in the franchise and is directing Toy Story 5. “It’s very clear how sincere everybody’s fondness for these characters is, how deep their connections to them are, and we feel the same way. We can’t wait to keep these stories coming for you.”

Universal Confirms Construction in Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure

The days of the Lost Continent may truly be numbered. Universal Orlando Resort has officially confirmed that “construction activity” will soon begin in the Lost Continent area of Islands of Adventure, sparking major speculation that a brand-new land could be on the horizon.

The confirmation came after reports surfaced that Universal had filed a permit to demolish nearly five acres of the area, including long-shuttered attractions. Kristen Smith, Director of Public Relations, told the Orlando Business Journal, “In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”

Universal stopped short of revealing exactly what those future developments will be, but fans already have their guesses.

Lost Continent has been in limbo for years. The once-expansive land was partly taken over in 2010 by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and its last attractions, The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad and Poseidon’s Fury, closed in 2018 and 2023 respectively. The Sinbad theater still sits abandoned with stage sets in place, while the ruins of Poseidon’s Fury remain untouched. With the new permit filed, it looks like both areas could finally be cleared for something new.

Universal Orlando Confirms Construction in Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure for Potential New Land

Speculation is running wild. Many fans are pointing to the long-rumored Legend of Zelda expansion for Super Nintendo World, which could bring Hyrule to life at Islands of Adventure. Others believe Wicked could get its own magical land, especially after Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury recently addressed the possibility himself.

Whatever the plans may be, this construction confirmation marks the clearest sign yet that the Lost Continent is ready for its next chapter. And with Universal pouring resources into Epic Universe and beyond, it seems like Islands of Adventure is about to level up once again.

Avast, ye thirsty pirates! If you missed out on snagging a reservation for Magic Kingdom’s hottest new watering hole, The Beak and Barrel, there’s good news on the horizon. Disney has quietly released more reservation slots for the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar, giving fans another shot at sipping rum with their feathered friends.

Reservations for The Beak and Barrel originally opened on August 20, just over a week before the bar’s grand debut on August 29. Demand was sky-high, and every slot through October was booked in less than an hour. Disney then began gradually reopening select dates, while also putting a cap on party sizes at eight guests or fewer to help manage demand.

As of Friday, September 12, many October dates now show green on the reservation calendar, along with limited September availability on the 21st, 25th, and 30th. November is also looking promising, with slots open November 2–4, 9–11, and 16–18. Keep in mind, availability can shift depending on party size—solo travelers and duos will find the most options, while larger groups may be out of luck.

It’s worth noting that some of these available dates overlap with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party nights. The Beak and Barrel will be open during the after-hours event, but guests will need a separate party ticket to enter Magic Kingdom on those evenings.

Spider-Man “Tower of Terror” Attraction Concept Art Swings into Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland has unveiled brand-new concept art for its upcoming Spider-Man attraction, and it looks like the web-slinger is teaming up with the Avengers for one epic freefall.

The newly released artwork shows an Avengers-branded tower illuminated at sunset, with Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther, and of course Spider-Man battling above a plunging ride vehicle. Asgard even makes a dramatic appearance in the backdrop, hinting that this adventure may stretch beyond Earth.

While Disney has not outright confirmed it, the ride is heavily rumored to be a reimagined drop tower attraction, drawing inspiration from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Instead of ghosts in an elevator shaft, guests may find themselves caught in a high-stakes Marvel showdown at Stark Expo.

Hong Kong Disneyland has teased that “Tony Stark has invited Peter Parker to showcase new inventions,” but things go sideways when Spider-Man’s enemies arrive to crash the party. That leaves guests caught between Spidey, his allies, and a powerful villain determined to take Stark’s tech.

The Spider-Man attraction will join the park’s expanding Marvel-themed Stark Expo area, which already includes Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle. The Avengers Quinjet E-ticket originally planned for the land seems to be shelved for now, but this new concept shows Disney is still very much invested in bringing Marvel thrills to Hong Kong.

Disney Files New Patent for AI Powered Real Time Projection onto Moving Surfaces

Are AI-Enhanced Animatronics Coming to Disney Parks?

Disney has never been shy about pushing the boundaries of theme park magic, and a newly published patent suggests the next big leap might be bringing animatronics to life with artificial intelligence. Filed on March 1, 2024, and published September 4, 2025, the patent is officially titled “Dynamic augmented projected show elements.” While that sounds very Imagineering-jargon heavy, the short version is this: Disney is working on smarter, more lifelike projection-based animatronics that could respond in real time to guests.

Disney Files New Patent for AI Powered Real Time Projection onto Moving Surfaces

If you’ve ever ridden Frozen Ever After at EPCOT, you’ve seen Disney’s experiments with projected faces on animatronics. While Elsa and Anna can belt a tune with charm, fans often point out that the projections sometimes look a little… off. The new patent directly addresses that issue, aiming to create more natural, fluid, and immersive character expressions.

According to the filing, the system would determine an animatronic’s orientation relative to projectors, then dynamically render imagery in sync with its movements. Imagine a game engine working behind the scenes, blending multiple projectors to create seamless effects like skin texture, shadows, blood flow, or subtle facial movements.

Disney Files New Patent for AI Powered Real Time Projection onto Moving Surfaces

The really groundbreaking element? The possibility of AI integration. Disney’s patent describes using artificial intelligence to not only power the projections but also interpret guest interactions like speech or gestures. In theory, this means an animatronic could recognize when you wave, ask you a question, or even crack a joke back at you. The patent even mentions “real-time puppets,” which could be computer-driven or human-operated systems using large language models (LLMs) to interact with guests in the moment.

By cutting down on mechanical complexity, this approach could also reduce maintenance costs and downtime. More realistic, less glitchy, and potentially conversational? Sounds like the next generation of Disney Parks storytelling might just talk back.

From the Underworld to Your Home: The Pain and Panic Plush Are Here!

Have you ever wished you could bring a little bit of the Underworld home with you, without all the eternal torment? Well, now you can! Disney has unleashed the most mischievous duo from Hercules, Pain and Panic, in plush form, and they are absolutely adorable. These little demon imps are available for a cool $19.99 each at Walt Disney World and on the Disney Store website, so you can pick your favorite or, even better, get the pair for double the fun!

Related – Yo Ho, Yo Ho, New Goofy and Clarabelle Cow Pirate Mini Mix-Its For Us!

Let’s talk about the Pain plush first. This guy is a soft, silly-looking demon with those iconic furry wings and a pointy tail that’s just begging to be fluffed. He even has little simulated leather sandals, because even a henchman of Hades needs to be comfortable! You can pose him wherever you want to create some imaginary chaos. He’s ready to do Hades’ bidding, or, more likely, just hang out and cause some harmless mischief with you.

Of course, you can’t have Pain without Panic! This plush is just as impish and soft as his partner in crime. He also sports those cute furry wings and a pointy tail, but the best part? He’s clutching a little Hercules sipper cup! It’s a hilarious detail that perfectly captures the bumbling nature of these two. Imagine setting up a little scene with them, maybe Panic is trying to drink from the cup while Pain is plotting some grand, albeit terrible, scheme.

These two plushies are the perfect addition to any Disney villain collection. They’re a fun, quirky nod to a classic film and a great way to bring a piece of the Disney Parks home. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Hercules or just love a good villain sidekick, Pain and Panic are ready to join your crew and cause some trouble, one cuddle at a time!
