Since her groundbreaking debut by Mattel in 1959 as “The Original Teenage Fashion Model,” Barbie has broken countless glass ceilings, tackling more than 250 careers. The USPS collection honors that legendary resume by highlighting 10 career-themed Barbie dolls from different eras, showcasing how she has evolved over the last six decades.

Each stamp features an era-appropriate Barbie dressed in her official professional uniform. The 10 featured careers spanning the collection include:

  • Registered Nurse (1961) — Complete with her white uniform and cap.
  • Surgeon (1973) — Ready for the OR in light blue scrubs and a stethoscope.
  • Astronaut
  • Firefighter (1995) — Outfitted in yellow turnout gear and a “Barbie Fire Rescue 1” T-shirt.
  • Paleontologist
  • Sign Language Teacher (2000) — Signing “I love you” in a classic plaid skirt.
  • Robotics Engineer
  • Judge
  • Soccer Player
  • Musical Artist

The collection is an absolute visual treat, created by USPS art director Ethel Kessler in close collaboration with Mattel. To truly bring out the incredible detail of the dolls’ outfits, the USPS utilized a rarely-used stamp format that is one-third taller than standard vertical commemorative stamps.

Naturally, the collection leans heavily into a bright, energetic palette dominated by the world’s most famous shade: Barbie Pink. The top of the sheet features the iconic script logo, while the bottom is anchored by a blue stripe boldly displaying the classic slogan: “You can be anything.”

As Forever stamps, they will always be equal to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price, meaning they are completely inflation-proof for your future mailings. Whether you are using them to send magical mail to friends or adding the intact pane straight to your pop-culture collection, these are an absolute must-have!

The new Barbie stamps are officially on sale now at Post Office locations nationwide and online at the USPS Postal Store. Grab yours before they fly off the shelves!

Sam Neill, Acclaimed ‘Jurassic Park’ Actor, Dies at 78

Hollywood has lost one of its most beloved icons. Sam Neill, the legendary New Zealand actor who captured the hearts of generations as the unforgettable paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, has passed away at the age of 78.

The news was shared through a heartbreaking post on his official Instagram page by his whānau (family), confirming that he passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by those who loved him.

The statement read, in part:

“It is with immense sadness that the whānau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia. Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.

The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care.”

While Neill had spent the last five years quietly battling blood cancer—a journey he first opened up about publicly—he had recently brought immense joy to fans when he announced he was officially cancer-free. His family noted how grateful they were for that blessing before his sudden passing.

jurassic

With over 150 on-screen roles spanning several decades, Neill was a powerhouse of the screen. Beyond navigating islands full of cloned dinosaurs, he turned in brilliant performances in films like Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, and the hit television series Peaky Blinders.

But for millions of fans who grew up falling in love with cinema, he will always be Dr. Alan Grant. He brought a perfect blend of crusty reluctance and deep warmth to the character, a role he lovingly returned to across multiple films, including 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.

Reflecting on his signature character a few years ago, Neill beautifully observed:

“I always think Alan Grant is like an old comfortable pair of boots. They’ve seen better days, but they’re really comfortable, and there’s no way you’ll get rid of those.”

Our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences go out to Sam Neill’s family, friends, and his massive community of fans around the world during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Doctor Grant. You made us believe in magic, adventure, and the awe of discovery.

Frontierland Boardwalk Disappears from Magic Kingdom Guidemaps as Piston Peak Transformation Continues

Another piece of Frontierland’s transformation has quietly arrived at Magic Kingdom. Disney has updated both its physical park guidemaps and the My Disney Experience digital map to remove the Frontierland boardwalk, signaling another step toward the future home of Piston Peak National Park.

While the wooden boardwalk itself still physically exists today, portions have already been blocked off to guests as construction continues. The removal from Disney’s official maps suggests the scenic walkway may soon close entirely, even before demolition begins. Previously, the boardwalk was clearly shown running alongside the main Frontierland pathway, offering guests a peaceful stroll with views overlooking the Rivers of America.

The change comes as work continues on Piston Peak National Park, the new Cars-inspired land announced for Magic Kingdom. Drawing inspiration from America’s national parks, including Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Rocky Mountains, the expansion will feature two new attractions. Guests will be able to experience an exciting off-road rally adventure along with a second family-friendly attraction. Disney has also introduced an original character for the area, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore, a nod to classic Disney park storytelling.

Disney Explores Free Tier Option for Disney+ Streaming Service

Disney+ Could Introduce a Free Viewing Tier as Disney Explores New Streaming Strategy

Watching Disney+ without a monthly subscription could someday become a reality. According to a new report, Disney is exploring the idea of offering a free tier on Disney+, giving viewers access to select content without paying for a subscription.

Related: New Pandora Counter Is Now Open at Epcot’s Port of Entry

Disney Explores Free Tier Option for Disney Plus Streaming Service

The discussions were reportedly shared during an internal streaming town hall led by Disney’s product and technology chief, Adam Smith. While no timeline or specific details have been announced, the reported plan would allow some Disney+ content to be available outside the traditional paywall. Disney has not officially confirmed that a free tier is coming, but sources say the idea is part of broader conversations about expanding access to the streaming service.

The move comes as free streaming platforms continue to gain momentum. Services like YouTube, Tubi, and The Roku Channel have seen significant growth as viewers increasingly look for free entertainment options, especially as subscription prices continue to climb. Currently, Disney+ starts at $12.99 per month with ads or $19.99 per month without ads when bundled with Hulu.

A free tier could also help Disney introduce new viewers to its biggest franchises before encouraging them to subscribe for full access. Imagine being able to sample episodes from popular series, watch select Disney movies, or enjoy exclusive clips from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney Animation without needing a paid account. While exactly what would be included remains unknown, the strategy could mirror how other streaming services offer a limited taste of their libraries.

Disney has also been experimenting with new ways to keep audiences engaged. The company recently added vertical video clips to Disney+, similar to social media platforms, and CEO Josh D’Amaro has emphasized product and technology innovation as a key focus for the company’s streaming future. A free viewing option would be another major step in that evolution.

For now, Disney fans will have to wait and see if these discussions become reality. If a free tier launches, it could make Disney+ more accessible than ever while giving millions of potential viewers an easy way to jump into the magic before deciding whether to subscribe.

Universal Debuts Brand-New Captain Cacao Shake at Celestial Park in Epic Universe

Universal Debuts Brand New Captain Cacao Shake at Celestial Park in Epic Universe

Review: Captain Cacao’s Starlight Voyage Is One of Epic Universe’s Most Unique Treats

Some of the best discoveries at Epic Universe aren’t announced with giant signs. Satellite Shakes, the small pickup window attached to Meteor Astropub in Celestial Park, almost feels like a secret hideaway. There’s no large hanging menu drawing you in, making it seem like you’ve stumbled onto something only seasoned explorers know about. Once you order one of its handcrafted shakes, you’ll understand why it’s worth seeking out.

Satellite Shakes currently offers three over-the-top creations: Captain Cacao’s Starlight Voyage, Comet’s Cookies & Cream Voyage, and the fruity Moonbeam Voyage. While each offers its own unique flavor profile, we decided to try Captain Cacao’s signature shake, and it certainly left an impression.

Captain Cacao’s Starlight Voyage starts with a rich chocolate shake and layers on marshmallow, blackberry syrup, praline crunch, chocolate whipped topping, and Captain Cacao’s signature chocolate hat. It’s assembled by hand, and that craftsmanship really shows. From the careful toppings to the presentation, this feels like part dessert, part edible work of art.

Universal Debuts Brand-New Captain Cacao Shake at Celestial Park in Epic Universe

Interestingly, our group was split on the flavor. The biggest chocolate lover among us wasn’t a fan because of the blackberry syrup, which adds a fruity twist that changes the shake from being a straightforward chocolate experience. If you’re expecting a classic chocolate milkshake, that berry note may catch you by surprise.

For me, though, that’s exactly what made it special. The blackberry syrup cuts through the richness of the chocolate and marshmallow, creating a layered flavor that never becomes overwhelming. Combined with the crunch from the praline topping and the creamy texture of the handcrafted shake, every sip offered something a little different. It was rich, flavorful, and unlike any milkshake I’ve had in a theme park.

If you’re looking for a simple chocolate shake, this probably isn’t it. But if you’re willing to try something a little more adventurous, Captain Cacao’s Starlight Voyage is one of the standout desserts at Epic Universe. It’s creative, beautifully presented, and well worth tracking down at one of the park’s most overlooked snack locations.

The Opening Weekend Box Office Numbers

On the financial side, the film is hitting a bit of a bumpy wave. Early domestic industry tracking estimates put the live-action Moana on track for a $42 million to $46 million opening weekend. The movie secured the number one spot at the box office, pulling in roughly $18 million on its opening Friday and preview screenings.

While a number one debut is always a win, the total lands noticeably below the $60+ million expectations analysts predicted just a week ago and sits quite a bit under the numbers put up by last year’s massive animated hit Moana 2. With a production budget estimated at around $200 million to $250 million, Disney will be looking heavily toward steady week-to-week holds and global turnouts to build long-term momentum.

Critics Slam It But Fans Make It Verified Hot

While film critics have been largely unenthusiastic—landing the movie at a soft 33% critical approval score on Rotten Tomatoes—everyday Disney fans are telling a completely different story.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the live-action Moana has officially been branded “Verified Hot” by general audiences. With well over 500 verified ratings submitted by real theatergoers, the movie is holding onto a stellar 90% audience score.

A quick look at the user reviews shows that families and major fans of the original story are heavily supporting the film. Many reviews mention that it is a beautiful, heartwarming watch to experience with the kids, highlighting that the public’s deep love for these characters is translating perfectly to the big screen. CinemaScore polls echo this fan praise, awarding the movie a solid A- grade. Newcomer Catherine Laga’aia’s performance as the titular princess and Dwayne Johnson’s return as Maui have also continued to serve as a major high point for viewers.

Ultimately, even if the opening weekend box office numbers did not break studio records, the strong word-of-mouth and the “Verified Hot” seal from fans could give this tropical adventure the staying power it needs throughout the summer movie season.

The Frosted Owl Is One of Epic Universe’s Must-Try Frozen Treats

When the Florida sun is doing its best impression of a dragon’s breath, Frosty Moon in Celestial Park has just the answer. The Frosted Owl is more than just a fun-looking dessert. It’s a delicious combination of chocolate hazelnut and vanilla ice cream layered with marshmallow topping, graham cracker crumbs, and a giant toasted marshmallow, all served in an adorable souvenir owl cup.

From the first bite, this dessert delivers everything you’d want from a s’mores-inspired frozen treat. The creamy ice cream, crunchy graham crackers, gooey marshmallow, and rich chocolate hazelnut flavors all come together perfectly. The toasted marshmallow on top isn’t just for looks either. It adds that classic campfire flavor that ties the whole dessert together.

We shared one between two people, and honestly, we’d recommend that approach. Between the generous serving size and the richness of the ingredients, it’s more than enough to satisfy two sweet tooths without feeling overindulgent. It also makes for a fun snack to enjoy while taking a break in Celestial Park.

If you’re looking for one of the best desserts at Epic Universe, The Frosted Owl belongs near the top of your list. It’s refreshing, packed with flavor, and the souvenir owl cup makes it a fun keepsake long after the last spoonful is gone.

Disney’s Live-Action Moana Injects a Massive $40 Million Boost Into Hawaii’s Economy

While Disney’s brand-new live-action adaptation of Moana is facing some choppy waters with film critics at the box office, the scoreboard looks entirely different for the communities where the movie was made.

State officials have confirmed that the massive production generated an estimated $39 million in economic impact for Hawaii. Even though the final film is a global Hollywood release, its production footprint left a tangible, positive financial wave across the islands.

You might be surprised to learn that while the crew spent nine high-profile days filming on location across the populated island of Oʻahu, the true financial impact was built over years. The film required a staggering 280 days of pre-production work stretching across 2022, 2023, and 2024.

According to state creative industry officials, that extensive timeline allowed millions of dollars to quietly ripple into the local economy long before cameras ever started rolling. The $39 million total includes direct spending on local vendors, construction contractors, equipment rentals, transportation networks, and catering.

A production of this scale requires a small army, and Disney heavily prioritized local hiring to bring Motunui to life. The project employed 560 Hawaii residents alongside 185 non-residents.

What makes this workforce unique is how broadly the spending was distributed across the community. The production hired locals across 39 distinct job categories, providing paychecks and invaluable hands-on training to:

  • Local actors and stunt performers
  • Special effects crews and construction teams
  • Accountants, coordinators, and production office staff
  • Logistics experts and transportation workers
  • On-set teachers to support the young cast members

State officials emphasized that working on a major studio project gives local creative professionals world-class experience, strengthening the region’s entertainment workforce for future projects.

The economic success of Moana lines up perfectly with Hawaii’s recent efforts to position itself as a premier filming destination. The state recently expanded its media production tax incentives, offering higher caps and bonuses specifically designed to encourage studios to hire local residents.

Given Disney’s deep roots in the islands—including the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie—this successful production serves as a perfect blueprint for how future major blockbusters can bring big entertainment to our screens while giving a massive boost to local island communities.
