Based on the latest updates from the Disneyland calendar, Toy Story Midway Mania! is officially scheduled to go offline for refurbishment starting April 6, 2026. Because the calendar only looks a certain number of days into the future, the exact duration of the closure remains a mystery for now.
While it’s possible this maintenance is simply a “tune-up” to prepare for the heavy summer crowds, some fans are speculating that the timing could be linked to the theatrical release of Toy Story 5 this June.

While the competition is open to all lines of business—from custodial to communications—one team exemplified the heart of the event. Led by Claire Embil from Walt Disney World Communications, the squad featured a powerhouse lineup: a veteran from EPCOT Attractions, a representative from Disney Cruise Line Communications, and their “clutch player,” Claire’s mom, Janet.
Janet flies in from Chicago every single year for this tradition. For Claire, the choice to bring her mom as her one permitted guest is a no-brainer.
“My mom surprised me with my very first trip to Walt Disney World when I was four,” Claire shared. “That trip set me on my path. It’s because of her love and hard work that I get to have a career making magic for others today.”
While Janet has attended cast previews for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the Mystery Tour remains her favorite. “It is really challenging, but really exciting because we get to do it together,” Janet said.
The Strategy: Training for the “Mystiki”
You don’t just show up to Goofy’s Mystery Tour; you train. Every year, Claire hosts a virtual practice session. The curriculum is intense:

The Secret Weapon: Janet. While the rest of the team handles the trivia, Janet “sails through the puzzles,” a testament to the ingenious designs created by the event’s “Clue Crew.”
Before heading to the park, the team gathers for a traditional dinner—a moment to reconnect, strategize, and laugh. For Claire, it’s a “fun throwback” to the days when she worked alongside her teammates daily.
Solving the Mystery in Asia
Under the glow of the lanterns in the Asia section of the park, the teamwork was on full display. Despite being stumped by complex riddles, the group leaned on each other’s strengths.
Alyssa noted the pure joy of the night: “Genuinely, every moment was filled with so much fun!”
Celina highlighted the synergy: “The way we just bounce off of each other and got each puzzle done was so incredible.”
For the third year in a row, the team achieved their ultimate goal: solving all 12 clue puzzles.

While they take the competition seriously, Claire is quick to admit they aren’t necessarily topping the leaderboard. “Our P.R. (personal record) is in the fun and not the points,” she joked.

D23 Gold Members Can Hop Into Early Screenings of Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers
D23 is giving Gold Members a chance to leap ahead of the crowd with exclusive advance screenings of Hoppers, the all-new animated adventure from Disney and Pixar. Screenings take place February 28 through March 2, 2026, in select cities, including Orlando and Burbank, with most locations already completely sold out.
In Orlando, the screening will be held at AMC Disney Springs 24 on Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m. local time, though tickets for that location have officially sold out. Gold Members in Orlando and Burbank paid $15 plus a $3 processing fee per ticket, while members in other cities were able to reserve complimentary tickets. Orlando attendees also receive a regular popcorn voucher and a bottled drink, making it a pretty sweet movie night perk inside the Disney bubble.
Hoppers introduces Mabel, an animal lover who uses new technology that allows humans to “hop” their consciousness into robotic animals, unlocking the ability to communicate with the animal world in ways never imagined. The film features an impressive voice cast, including Meryl Streep, Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, Piper Curda, and more, and is directed by Daniel Chong with producer Nicole Paradis Grindle. If the concept sounds delightfully wild, that is very much the point.
As with all D23 events, Gold Members must present valid membership credentials and a matching ID, and tickets are non-transferable. But if you secured a seat, you will be among the first to learn the pond rules before the rest of the world dives in.
Twin Brothers File Lawsuits Over Alleged Injuries on Harry Potter Ride at Epic Universe
Legal trouble has arrived at Universal Epic Universe as twin brothers have filed separate lawsuits alleging they were injured while riding Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry on Christmas Day 2025. According to court filings first reported by WKMG, 45-year-old brothers Derrick and Errick Burroughs claim the attraction malfunctioned and came to an abrupt stop, allegedly throwing them around in their seats and causing back and neck injuries.
The lawsuits, filed individually against Universal Orlando Resort, state the ride was not maintained in a reasonably safe condition and that guests were not warned of dangerous conditions the company “knew or should have known” about. The brothers are represented by Morgan and Morgan, and the complaint alleges permanent bodily injury, pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, and diminished earning capacity. Each lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $50,000 and demands a jury trial.
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is one of the headliner attractions inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. The ride has been widely praised for its scale and ambition, blending large-scale sets, advanced ride vehicles, and immersive storytelling. Orlando just leveled up its transportation game. Waymo has officially launched its self-driving ride-hailing service in The City Beautiful, joining Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio as part of its latest expansion. That brings Waymo’s total commercial metro areas to 10, with even bigger plans on the horizon.
Riders who have downloaded the Waymo app will begin receiving invitations on a rolling basis, allowing the company to scale smoothly before opening the service to everyone later this year. According to Waymo co CEO Tekedra Mawakana, the company is on track to serve more than one million rides per week by the end of 2026, with Orlando playing a key role in plans to expand into more than 20 cities.
Here is where things get especially interesting for theme park fans. Waymo’s Orlando service map includes coverage near Universal Orlando Resort, portions of Walt Disney World Resort, and Orlando International Airport. That means in the near future, your ride from the airport to your hotel or even between major destinations could be handled by a vehicle that does not need a human driver behind the wheel. Talk about Tomorrowland energy in real life.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer welcomed the launch, calling it another example of the city’s forward thinking approach to innovation and mobility. Waymo is also partnering with Lighthouse Central Florida to help ensure the service is accessible and meets the needs of individuals with vision loss.

Disney Files New Permits as Magic of Disney Animation Moves Into Show Mode at Hollywood Studios
Things are sketching up nicely over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as Walt Disney Imagineering has filed four new permits tied to the transformation of The Magic of Disney Animation building in the former Animation Courtyard. The Notices of Commencement cover set installation and electrical work inside the building, plus additional work at the former gateway arch location that was recently demolished.
When you see “install set elements” and “electrical work” on permits like this, that usually means we are past the heavy construction phase and moving into the part where the magic gets plugged in and powered up. Three of the permits resolve directly to The Magic of Disney Animation building, formerly home to Star Wars Launch Bay, while the fourth connects to the old archway entrance site.
Contractors listed include Elite A/V Systems Inc, PCL Construction Services, and Solotech, all familiar names when it comes to Disney show systems and themed builds. In other words, we are talking lighting rigs, audio systems, projection, and all the behind the curtain tech that turns walls into worlds. That lines up perfectly with Disney’s previously announced summer opening timeline.
When The Magic of Disney Animation debuts, it will feature Olaf Draws!, an Animation Academy experience hosted by an Audio Animatronics Olaf from Frozen, alongside real Disney animators guiding guests step by step. There will also be the Enchanted Art Gallery where characters spring to life, the Once Upon A Studio Theater showing the Emmy Award winning short with enhanced effects, and Drawn to Wonderland Playground inspired by Mary Blair’s whimsical concept art.
Add in multiple character greeting locations and the area’s reimagining into a cohesive Walt Disney Studios themed lot, and this former dead zone could soon be drawing crowds instead of dust.
