To add even more fuel to the speculation, the website’s header image was recently updated to feature the Disney Magic docked in New York.
Disney Cruise Line last sailed from New York City in fall 2023, when the Disney Dream offered cruises to Bermuda and Eastern Canada. Prior to that, New York departures were offered only occasionally before Disney shifted more of its fleet to higher-demand homeports like Port Canaveral.
With Disney Cruise Line rapidly expanding its fleet, returning to New York makes a lot of sense. The line currently has eight ships sailing, with several more on the way through 2031. The Disney Destiny is preparing for its inaugural season from Fort Lauderdale, the Disney Adventure will sail exclusively from Singapore, and the Disney Believe is set to debut in 2027, followed by additional new ships. According to the official D23 panel description, the upcoming feature will explore how Disney’s most iconic creative minds use the physical theme parks as a direct source of creative fuel. The description reads:
“Discover how Disney’s greatest storytellers draw inspiration from the parks where their worlds were always meant to live, featuring a panel with top filmmakers and special guests, followed by the debut screening of Leslie Iwerks’ new feature coming to Disney+.”
Not only do D23 attendees get to witness the premier screening alongside a panel of top filmmakers and special guests, but the announcement also confirms the project will be headed straight to Disney+ after the event for fans at home to enjoy.
If the name Iwerks sounds legendary, that’s because it is. Leslie Iwerks has a deep, multi-generational connection to the Walt Disney Company. She is the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks—the pioneering original animator and co-creator of Mickey Mouse—and the daughter of Disney Legend Don Iwerks, the brilliant camera technician who passed away earlier this month at the age of 96.
Leslie has beautifully carried on that family legacy by documenting the history of the company’s magic. Aside from her smash-hit series The Imagineering Story, she has directed The Pixar Story, The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story, and the recent January release, Disneyland Handcrafted.

According to the company, Mecca Productions is a highly respected full-service design, fabrication, and installation firm that specializes in building props and scenery for the world’s most notable themed entertainment venues.

Mecca Productions is the same elite fabrication studio behind the recently debuted Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as the new Toy Story Land snack kiosk. The company has also been tapped for the upcoming Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions slated for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Drac and the pack are officially making their grand return to the silver screen. Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon MGM Studios have joined forces to greenlight a fifth installment in the multi-billion-dollar animated franchise, officially titled The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania.
The newly announced sequel has locked in a theatrical release date for October 8, 2027, bringing the beloved monster family back to theaters just in time for the Halloween season.
This film marks a theatrical homecoming for the franchise. The fourth film, Hotel Transylvania Transformania, bypassed theaters entirely during the pandemic lockdowns and debuted exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in 2022. Under the new production and distribution agreement, Sony Pictures will handle the domestic theatrical rollout in North America along with select international markets, while Amazon MGM Studios will oversee distribution and theatrical releases across the rest of the world.
Behind the scenes, Jennifer Kluska and Alan Hawkins are on board to co-direct the fifth film, with Lawrence Jonas stepping in to produce. Fans of the franchise will also be happy to hear that original creator Genndy Tartakovsky is returning to executive produce alongside longtime franchise producer Michelle Murdocca.
Plot details and official voice cast returns are currently being kept under wraps inside the vault, but production is officially moving forward on the highly anticipated animated sequel.
