Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort Celebrates 30 Years of Magic

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort hits a major milestone as it celebrates 30 years

Nestled in the heart of the Lowcountry, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is officially celebrating its 30th anniversary! While most people immediately think of the soaring castles in Florida or California when they hear “Disney Resort,” this charming South Carolina retreat offers a different kind of pixie dust.

For three decades, this hidden gem has been a sanctuary for families and Disney Vacation Club members, trading high-speed coasters for front-porch vibes, stunning marsh views, and sun-soaked beach days. The magic here is personal; the Cast Members—including several who have been part of the team since opening day—will tell you that the resort’s coastal soul is what truly makes it special.

To honor 30 years of Disney magic in Hilton Head, here are three reasons why this coastal escape belongs on your must-visit list

Hilton Head Combines Disney Magic with Oceanside Charm

Tucked away on 15 acres of private Longview Island, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is designed to feel like a cozy saltwater fishing lodge. It’s the kind of place where the sea breeze rolls in, rocking chairs line the porch and Spanish moss sways overhead.

Days here unfold a little differently than any other Disney Vacation Club destination. Guests can rent bikes and ride along the scenic path to Disney’s Beach House, an oceanfront hideaway with beach access and fun family offerings for resort guests or explore 12 miles of Atlantic coastline. There are also heated pools for year-round relaxation.

Hilton head

The Disney magic is very much alive here. Guests might spot Pluto or Chip ‘n’ Dale popping up for hugs and photos, and when the craving hits for a favorite Disney snack, they can swing by Tide Me Over for a Dole Whip or Mickey Pretzel. The resort offers daily recreation activities like evening campfires with storytelling and s’mores, Goofy Bingo, Movies Under the Oaks, and guided nature tours.

There are so many activities to explore, but there is also plenty of time built in to simply slow down. Whether you’re exploring on two wheels, relaxing by the water, or discovering the Lowcountry outdoors, a stay here feels both effortless and full of excitement.

Cast Members Welcome You Like Family

The magic of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort comes alive through the passion and dedication of our cast members. For three women, that magic has been part of their story since the very beginning. Evelyn, Alicia, and Melissa are all celebrating 30 years with the resort. They helped welcome the very first guests in 1996 and for three decades they’ve helped make the magic that makes this resort feel like home.

When guests arrive at the resort for the first time, Housekeeping Manager, Evelyn, says the difference is immediate. “When they come through the gate and we say, ‘Welcome home,’ they actually feel like they’re at home and not on vacation.” That sense of home is something she believes sets the resort apart.

For Rooms Coordinator, Alicia, who was born and raised just over an hour away on St. Helena Island, the resort feels just as personal. “It’s literally my home away from home,” she explains. “These cast members are like my family. Even some of the guests that come year after year, they’re family too.”

Housekeeping Coordinator, Melissa, who moved to the island from Connecticut, explains it this way: “We’re laid back. We are where people vacation to truly relax and get rest.”

That slower pace is paired with something guests often don’t expect. “They are surprised mostly by the Southern hospitality that they get from the cast members,” Alicia says. “Our cast members are really friendly.”

As a manager, Evelyn believes that great culture starts behind the scenes: “I feel like positivity spreads from cast member to cast member, then they roll it out to the guests, and everyone feels right at home.”

Over three decades, those relationships have grown into lifelong traditions. Melissa recently reconnected with a returning guest family she’s known since 1998. She’s watched the children grow up and their parents become grandparents. “It’s like we’re neighbors or best friends,” she said.

Whether they’ve been with the resort since day one or just joined the team, every cast member is part of the resort’s story, and we’re so grateful for the magic they bring to Lowcountry.

You Can Make a Positive Difference

The magic of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort extends far beyond the guest rooms and pools. Cast members like the resort’s naturalist help immerse guests in nature through programs about local ecosystems, beach renourishment, and wildlife spotting.

Dolphin cruises, kayak tours, and hands-on educational experiences allow everyone from curious kids to knowledgeable nature lovers to explore and appreciate the Lowcountry in a way that feels uniquely Disney. It’s an experience that leaves guests feeling more connected to nature, and even inspired to protect it long after their vacation ends.

The resort has also been committed to supporting the local community through partnerships and volunteer efforts, including work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, and many other nonprofits that work to lift up the community.

Evelyn remembers her many opportunities with Disney VoluntEARS and the Boys & Girls Club fondly. “It meant a lot to me. I enjoy being around them even just to put a smile on their faces.”

Ryan Wise, the Area Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island, spoke highly of the work Disney is doing in the community too. “Moments like this are incredibly powerful for our kids. Having Disney visit the Club brings excitement and inspiration, while reminding our members that their dreams are just as big and important as anyone else’s,” he shared. “We are grateful for partners who invest in our young people and help create experiences that spark imagination and leave lasting memories.”

Together, cast members and guests help support programs that make a real difference in the lives of children and families living in Hilton Head Island, reinforcing Disney’s ongoing commitment to serving and strengthening the Lowcountry region it calls home.

Jeff Bridges, Allison Janney, and Christoph Waltz lead the all-star cast of Illumination’s Minions & Monsters

Illumination and Universal Pictures have officially pulled back the curtain on the star-studded voice cast for their next big adventure, Minions & Monsters. As the latest chapter in the biggest global animated franchise in history, this film promises to bring a “full dose of irreverence” to theaters just in time for the summer rush.

The lineup for Minions & Monsters is packed with serious star power. Joining the mischievous yellow henchmen are:

  • Allison Janney (Academy Award® winner)
  • Christoph Waltz (Two-time Academy Award® winner)
  • Jeff Bridges (Academy Award® winner)
  • Jesse Eisenberg (Two-time Academy Award® nominee)
  • Trey Parker (South Park co-creator and comedy icon)
  • Zoey Deutch (Nouvelle Vague)

The cast is rounded out by fan-favorites Bobby Moynihan (SNL) and Phil LaMarr (Futurama). Of course, it wouldn’t be a Minions movie without Pierre Coffin, who returns to direct and provide the iconic voices of the Minions themselves.

Slated for release on July 1, 2026, the film follows the “totally true” story of how the Minions—led by a new character named Dick—conquered Hollywood.

After becoming movie stars and subsequently losing everything, the Minions accidentally unleash monsters onto the world. In classic fashion, they must band together to save the planet from the very mayhem they created. According to Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, the film also serves as a love letter to the origins of cinema and the classic comedians who originally inspired the Minions’ slapstick style.

Since their debut over 15 years ago, the Minions have become a $5.6 billion global powerhouse. Following the massive success of Minions: The Rise of Gru—which nearly hit the $1 billion mark—expectations are sky-high for this next installment.

Disney Agrees to $50 Million Settlement in Streaming Subscription Lawsuit

The Walt Disney Company has agreed to pay $50 million to settle a class action lawsuit involving streaming subscription packages offered through services like YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream. The lawsuit, originally filed in 2023, accused Disney of inflating streaming prices by requiring platforms to bundle ESPN with their channel offerings.

Disney Reaches Fifty Million Dollar Settlement Over Streaming Price Inflation Claims

According to the lawsuit, Disney’s carriage agreements forced streaming providers to include ESPN in their base channel packages, even if customers may not have wanted sports programming. Plaintiffs argued this practice drove up subscription costs and limited consumer choice, making the pricing structure anti-competitive.

The proposed settlement would apply to customers who subscribed to YouTube TV or DirecTV’s streaming live pay TV services between April 1, 2019, and the date the settlement receives preliminary approval. If finalized, the agreement would establish a $50 million settlement fund for affected subscribers.

In addition to the financial payout, the settlement requires Disney to consider proposals for streaming packages that could include fewer Disney-owned channels. This means future bundles may potentially exclude ESPN or other Disney networks depending on negotiations with streaming providers.

An earlier version of the lawsuit also included customers from FuboTV, though that group was later separated from the case.

The proposed settlement still needs approval from the court before it becomes final.

The video, originally shared on TikTok and later reposted on X by user @NickChaps96, shows a guest leaning over the bridge near World Showcase Lagoon between the Odyssey Pavilion and Test Track. In the clip, the guest appears to be using a handheld fishing reel to hook and pull a fish out of the water. After briefly reeling it in, the guest removes the hook and releases the fish back into the lagoon.

While it might look like a scene straight out of Living with the Land, fishing in EPCOT’s waterways is not permitted for guests. Disney maintains strict rules about guest behavior around park waterways, both for safety reasons and to protect the wildlife that calls these areas home.

Interestingly enough, fishing actually is available at Walt Disney World if you do it the right way. Disney offers guided largemouth bass fishing excursions at several resort marinas across property. Guests can also enjoy dockside fishing at select locations like Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. There are even early morning fishing excursions that take place on lakes near EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios before the parks open.

Head of Disney Games Suing Disney for $40 Million Over Alleged Discrimination

A new lawsuit involving a major Disney executive is making headlines, as the head of Disney’s gaming division has filed a $40 million discrimination suit against the company. The legal complaint alleges that Disney reduced the executive’s compensation and attempted to push him out of the company despite strong performance and record profits in the division he oversees.

Jay Ong Files Forty Million Dollar Discrimination Lawsuit Against The Walt Disney Company

Jay Ong, the current head of the Disney Games Group, has filed the lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company claiming discrimination and retaliation. According to reports, Ong alleges that his compensation was cut after an HR executive began investigating his background and privately contacted his executive coach without permission. In the lawsuit, Ong states that Natalia Strauch, the HR Vice President for Disney Global Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing, suggested during a February 2025 meeting that he was not a strong “cultural” fit for the company.

Ong claims that despite receiving “exceptional” performance evaluations and overseeing record profitability for the Disney Games division, his compensation was reduced. His incentive award reportedly dropped from $770,000 to $620,000, and his annual bonus also decreased compared to the previous year. The lawsuit argues that Disney intentionally reduced his compensation to send a message and force him out of the company.

The filing also alleges a broader pattern of discrimination within the company, claiming that Disney discriminates against employees of Asian descent. Ong’s legal team argues that the treatment he experienced reflects a systemic issue within the organization.

Ong joined Disney Games in April 2024 after spending nearly a decade leading Marvel Games. During his career, he has overseen the development of titles tied to some of Disney’s biggest franchises, including Spider-Man, Star Wars, Alien vs. Predator, Toy Story, and Avatar.

As of now, Ong remains employed at Disney while the lawsuit moves forward.

TSA Workforce Hits Breaking Point hundreds resign amid government shutdown

The financial strain of the ongoing government shutdown is hitting the frontline of air travel, with TSA employees now officially working without pay. This mounting pressure has led to an increase in staff resignations and a surge in “call-outs,” creating a ripple effect that is beginning to impact travelers nationwide.

TSA

The ongoing partial government shutdown has reached a critical tipping point for U.S. air travel. Since funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was paused one month ago, travelers have already seen the suspension of Global Entry and TSA PreCheck services. However, the situation intensified this week as TSA employees missed their first full paychecks, leading to a sharp decline in workforce stability.

The financial strain is forcing many frontline workers to make difficult choices. According to the DHS and recent reports:

  • Mass Resignations: Over 300 TSA agents have officially quit this week alone, following the departure of approximately 1,110 officers during the funding lapse last fall.
  • Surging Call-Outs: Personnel “call-outs” have tripled, jumping from a pre-shutdown rate of 2% to 6%.

In a rare show of unity, the CEOs of major carriers—including American, Delta, Southwest, JetBlue, UPS, and FedEx—issued an open letter to Congress this past Sunday. They are urging a bipartisan solution to restore DHS funding immediately.

“It’s difficult, if not impossible, to put food on the table, put gas in the car and pay rent when you are not getting paid,” the letter stated.

The airline leaders are calling for new legislation to ensure that essential safety personnel, such as air traffic controllers and TSA agents, receive their pay regardless of future government funding disputes to protect the nation’s infrastructure.

att CxaKlcPcEupvKeaCprgzN AthfJHH

TSA officers are reporting a stark lack of support compared to previous funding lapses, with many feeling the strain more than ever. “The resources we had in the fall are not available today,” shared George Borek, a TSA officer at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, highlighting a growing crisis for frontline workers.

In response, airports across the country are requesting donations to support unpaid staff. Orlando InternationalAirport (MCO) is currently hosting a food drive and accepting the following items:

  • Essentials: Nonperishable food, cleaning/laundry supplies, and diapers (all sizes).
  • Pet Care: Various pet supplies.
  • Gift Cards: $10 denominations for gas or grocery stores.

Donation Locations:

  • Information Booths: Located on the Departures level.
  • Terminal C Departures Curb: Weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Orlando Executive Airport: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As MCO faces its busiest Spring Break on record, travelers are strongly urged to arrive at the airport significantly earlier than usual. Due to the staffing shortage, security wait times can now reach several hours.

Will you be flying any time soon?

Disney Shares First Look at Garden View Lounge Featuring Alice in Wonderland Experience

First Look at all-new Garden View Lounge and immersive Alice in Wonderland experience

Grab your “best-teas” and get “read-tea” for the grand debut of The Garden View Lounge – Tea Experience at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa on March 19, 2026!

This reimagined space perfectly blends the sophisticated elegance of the Victorian era with the whimsical charm of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Alice in Wonderland. Located in the heart of the beautifully refurbished Grand Floridian, this timeless story comes to life in an enchanting setting that’s sure to leave you feeling like you’ve stepped right through the looking glass.

A Whimsical Welcome to the Reimagined Lounge

As you step into The Garden View Lounge, it feels like walking into a sunlit conservatory. My personal favorite part of the space is the floor-to-ceiling windows. No matter the time of day, natural light pours into the room, giving the entire space a warm, inviting glow.

As you look closer into the space, the furniture strikes a balance between modern comfort and classic Victorian, making the lounge feel fresh while honoring the beloved Grand Floridian style guests know and love.

Details That Bring the Space to Life

As with any Disney location, the magic is in the details. The floral patterns, plush fabrics, and gentle hues of green, blue, and gold create a serene atmosphere that feels connected to nature.

Organic shapes appear throughout the room, portraying the flowers and leaves you’d find in a flourishing garden, creating a lush escape for anyone who enters.

The brass-framed mirrors resemble flower petals, reflecting an outdoor garden, while the stained-glass windows featuring native Floridian birds add color, character, and warmth.

Looking down, the gorgeous carpet inspired by winding garden vines will have you stop in your tracks (it was one of the first things I noticed about the space!). Do you see anything special integrated into the design?

A Timeless Tradition Returns

This long-awaited Afternoon Tea Service returns with a delicious menu inspired by the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland, of course served with a unique presentation of loose leaf teas from Twinings. Adults are welcome to choose between a traditional tea service or a plant-based option, while younger guests can enjoy a special children’s tea. It’s a thoughtful approach that makes the experience feel welcoming for families, couples, and solo tea lovers alike.

The Dynamic Duo for Your Feet

First up, for $79.99, you can snag the Chip ‘n Dale Fuzzy Crocs. These aren’t your average rubber clogs; they are completely covered in allover plush, making them look more like stuffed animals than footwear. The best part? You don’t have to choose a favorite brother. Dale’s goofy mug is on the left shoe, while Chip is holding things down on the right.

Chip and Dale and Goofy Crocs

Disney went all out on the details here. You’ve got embroidered faces, 3D elements, and even molded acorns on the adjustable heel straps. They’re basically the footwear equivalent of a hug from a mischievous squirrel. If you’re brave enough to wear these out in the wild, just be prepared for everyone to ask if you’re actually wearing slippers (which, let’s be real, is the ultimate goal).

Step Into a Gawrsh Moment

If fuzzy rodents aren’t your vibe, maybe a clumsy dog is more your speed. The Goofy Crocs are retailing for $69.99 and they are bright, bold, and delightfully weird. The front of the shoe features Goofy’s signature toothy grin in a raised dimensional design, but the real kicker is the 3D plush ears sticking off the sides.

Chip and Dale and Goofy Crocs

The color palette is classic Goofy, vibrant greens and blues with a bright orange heel strap that has his name molded right into it. They even tucked his face onto the pivot point of the strap for that extra gawrsh factor. They’re essentially a costume for your feet, and honestly, they’re the perfect way to tell the world you don’t take yourself too seriously.

We’re talking a super soft silicone straw that’s actually comfortable to use, a grip handle that feels like it was molded for your hand, and a non-slip silicone base so it won’t slide off the table the second someone bumps it. Plus, they actually fit in most cupholders, so they’re ready for every road trip or morning commute.

Mickey and Minnie Retro Rainbow Leakproof Cruisers

Can we talk about these color combos for a second? They are absolute perfection. If you’re eyeing the massive 40oz version, it comes in a crisp, classic white that makes the retro rainbow graphics really pop. But if you’re leaning toward the 22oz size, you’ve got some tough choices to make:

Mickey and Minnie Retro Rainbow Leakproof Cruisers

The best part? Cleaning up is actually easy. The lid separates without a fight, and the whole thing is dishwasher safe, so you can spend less time scrubbing and more time planning your next Disney park outfit. It’s functional, it’s nostalgic, and let’s be real, it’s just plain cute.
