Officials Confirm Guest Death at Bay Lake Tower Was a Suicide

Authorities have confirmed that the recent death at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort was ruled a suicide, marking the third fatality (and second suicide) at Walt Disney World this month and the second occurring at the Contemporary Resort property.

According to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, the guest has been identified as 28-year-old Matthew Cohn. In a statement provided to The New York Post, officials confirmed that “the manner of death was ruled suicide; cause of death: multiple traumatic injuries.”

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at Bay Lake Tower on Thursday, October 23, after reports of an incident outside the resort. Witnesses described a large response involving multiple police cruisers as well as myriad Fire and EMS vehicles. Cast Members temporarily closed select entrances to the tower while teams worked, and guests were reportedly asked not to look from their balconies. Temporary barriers, including towel carts and scaffolding, were used to help shield the area from public view.

All emergency vehicles had cleared by approximately 1 p.m., and details were not immediately released. Initial reports suggested a possible medical emergency before officials confirmed the cause of death in the days following.

Hold onto your MagicBands, because Lightning Lane prices are surging again, and this time, they’ve hit all-time highs across every Walt Disney World park. These new maximums affect both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass purchases, marking a significant jump since the system launched in July 2024. While the increases were first introduced in this month’s resort-wide price adjustments, this is the first week guests will actually see those maximums applied during booking.

  • Magic Kingdom: $45 (up from $39 previous max, $29 at launch)
  • EPCOT: $37 (up from $32 previous max, $21 at launch)

Lightning Lane Prices Reach New Peak at Walt Disney World This Week

While the record highs are sparking conversation among parkgoers, the timing makes sense — these dates fall in the middle of one of Walt Disney World’s busiest stretches, with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party wrapping up and Christmas décor already rolling out across the parks. Guest demand is high, and the pricing reflects that.

Interestingly, the Lightning Lane Premier Pass — the one-day option that covers every available Lightning Lane in a single park — is not seeing similar peak pricing this week, offering a rare bit of price stability amid the increases.

New Episode of ‘Imagineer That!’ Explores the Spooky Secrets Behind Disney’s Tower of Terror

Paging Mr. Morrow… again! Walt Disney Imagineering has released a brand-new Halloween-themed episode of Imagineer That!, and this one takes fans straight into the cobweb-covered depths of one of Disney’s creepiest icons — The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Hosted by none other than Tom Morrow 2.0, the inquisitive mini-matronic robot once stationed at EPCOT’s Innoventions, this latest episode answers the perfectly timed question: “How do Imagineers make things in the park look so old and creepy?”

Set decorators Nathaniel and Marielle guide Tom — and viewers — through the fascinating art of aging. They reveal how Disney’s creative teams transform brand-new materials into convincingly timeworn relics, using techniques like layering paint, applying patina effects, and distressing surfaces to create the illusion of decay. The team even shares a look inside The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror’s haunted hotel lobby, pointing out how Imagineers use authentic antiques, custom cobwebs, and atmospheric lighting to make guests feel as though the Hollywood Tower Hotel has been abandoned since that fateful lightning strike in 1939.

The episode highlights the delicate balance between spooky and story-driven design. Every speck of dust and every rusted surface in the Tower of Terror serves a purpose — to immerse guests deeper into its chilling backstory. “The more dust that collects over time, the better it looks,” says Nathaniel, revealing how the environment naturally enhances the illusion as years pass.

The Halloween special continues Tom Morrow 2.0’s rebooted run of Imagineer That!, a YouTube series from Walt Disney Imagineering that spotlights the real creative minds behind Disney’s most beloved attractions. Previous episodes have explored how Imagineers design mountains and brainstorm new rides, but this eerie installment proves that even in the happiest place on Earth, a touch of the macabre can be pure Imagineering magic.

Hosted by Coca-Cola, the newly redesigned stand embraces the land’s retro-futuristic aesthetic with sleek curves, metallic panels, and that signature “Space Age optimism” that defines Tomorrowland. The rebuilt structure—craned into place earlier this fall—marks a full reinvention of the fan-favorite drink stop, now set to debut with a brand-new lineup of galactic goodies.

What’s on the Menu at AstroFizz?
AstroFizz promises “snack liftoff” with a blend of classic Disney treats and a few inventive twists:

  • Frozen Slushies – Available in Coca-Cola, Fanta Blue Raspberry, and Fanta Orange flavors.

  • Popcorn – Because what’s a Disney snack stand without it?

Between the nostalgia factor and those vibrant new slushie hues, AstroFizz seems ready to become a photo-op favorite for Tomorrowland explorers.

Though Disney hasn’t announced an exact opening date just yet, construction walls are up, signage is in place, and finishing touches are underway. With all systems go, guests won’t have to wait long before they can fuel their next Space Mountain mission with a Cherry Cola Churro in hand.
