Figment Steals the Show at the EPCOT Festival of the Arts Photo Ops

During the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, you can celebrate the art of photography with themed photo ops from January 13 through February 20, 2023!

Figment is the star of this year’s Photopass Magic Shots at the Festival of the Arts. Check out all of the Disney Photo Pass shots below.

Figment Magic Shots

Magic Shots are all about using your imagination, which of course leads us to Figment! This year, we’re introducing three new Magic Shots inspired by everyone’s favorite playful dragon. You can find these Magic Shots at the following locations:

Figment Wings: Most Disney PhotoPass locations in EPCOT
Figment Chalk Art: At the main entrance to the park and near the entrance to World Showcase under the Monorail beam
Figment Flying: Most Disney PhotoPass locations in EPCOT

Tiny World Magic Shot: Festival of the Arts Edition

This 360-degree shot near the main entrance of the park (now available both during the day and after dark!) has quickly become a fan favorite, so we’re giving it a bright splash of color during the festival. Even if you’ve taken this photo before, be sure to stop by for this limited-time edition.

Artful Step-in Frames

All around EPCOT, you can literally step into works of art. The more you have fun with it, the better your photos will be! I was going to include a photo in this blog post of me smiling just right in Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, but I couldn’t take the picture without laughing. Maybe next time! Disney PhotoPass photographers will be at select locations to help you strike a perfect pose.

Paintbrush Prop + Magic Shot

No, these Magic Shots aren’t a figment of your imagination! After 6 p.m. at the main entrance of the park, a photographer can offer you a special prop that creates a beautiful light painting Magic Shot when the photo appears in your gallery. Art made easy!

Pixel Stick

When the sun goes down, the famous pixel stick comes out! In my opinion, this is the photo op where our photographers’ creativity really shines. Bask in the glow of the light while a photographer creates a painting around you. Every photo taken through this method is a completely unique work of art. This photo op usually draws an audience, because even if you aren’t capturing a photo, it sure is fun – and kind of hilarious – to watch the process. It’s available near Creations Shop on the pathway to World Showcase. When you see a giant light-up stick being masterfully twirled around, you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Jeremy Renner is Crushing All Recovery Progress Goals After Life-Threatening Accident. Kym Renner, the sister of the Avengers star recently gave an update to People magazine. Actor Jeremy Renner, who just turned 52, celebrated his birthday while recovering in the hospital on January 7th, 2023.

“We are so thrilled with his progress,” the actor’s sister, Kym Renner, says in the new issue of PEOPLE. “If anyone knows Jeremy, he is a fighter and doesn’t mess around. He is crushing all the progress goals. We couldn’t feel more positive about the road ahead.”

Marvel Actor Jeremy Renner was injured while plowing snow on January 1st, 2023, leaving him in “critical but stable condition,” according to his publicist.

“As of now, we can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” the publicist, Samantha Mast, said. “His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care.”

Renner, 51, was airlifted to a local hospital from the site of the incident in Reno, Nevada.

“At approximately 9 a.m. on January 1st, 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traumatic injury in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said they were investigating what had happened.

Universal Parks & Resorts Plans a Year-Round Horror Destination in Las Vegas

According to Bloomberg Universal Parks & Resorts is planning a year-round Horror Destination coming to Las Vegas! (Think year around Halloween Horror Nights) The news came out around the same time Universal Announced a new family-friendly theme park coming to Texas.

The company plans for a year-round, horror-focused destination in Las Vegas. At 110,000 square feet, it will be the anchor tenant in a 20-acre expansion of Area 15, an entertainment district that opened in Las Vegas in 2020.

The location, near the city’s famous Strip and off of the 15 freeway, already includes themed restaurants and entertainment attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, an immersive art experience.

Straight from Universal Parks & Resorts, the creators of Halloween Horror Nights – the world’s most popular global Halloween event – comes a brand-new permanent entertainment experience in Las Vegas. With a variety of unique, immersive, fantastic horror-centric experiences that surround high energy food and beverage spaces by day turned haunting bars and eateries by night, the new concept marks the first time Universal has created a permanent horror experience beyond its theme parks. Universal Parks & Resorts Announces New Theme Park Coming to Texas

JUST ANNOUNCED! Universal Parks & Resorts plans to bring a new concept for families with young children to Frisco, Texas!

The new park concept, set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor, and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.

Here are the details from the Press Release:

Universal Parks & Resorts announces a one-of-a-kind theme park, unlike any other in the world, specifically designed to inspire fun for families with young children. The new park concept, set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.

The proposed park will be designed to be more intimate and engaging for younger audiences and will be sized for a regional audience. It will be full of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, unique merchandise and fun food and beverage venues. Although smaller in size, it will still carry the same quality as Universal’s other larger resort destinations.

Part of 97 acres of land recently purchased by the company, the proposed park also has plans for an adjacent themed hotel and room for expansion. The entire area is intended to have a completely different look, feel, and scale than Universal’s existing parks and will appeal to a new audience for the brand.

Universal Parks & Resorts selected the city of Frisco, in North Texas, as the area for this new concept given the city’s growing population and ability to attract businesses to the area. The proposed location for the new concept is ideally situated east of the Dallas North Tollway and north of Panther Creek Parkway.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans,” said Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts. “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.”

“Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and has been recognized as a great place to plant professional roots and raise a family,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “This new Universal concept will continue to enhance our tax base, expand employment opportunities and bring even more fun to Frisco benefiting our residents, businesses, and visitors.”

Disney Cast Member Union Rejects Offer of $1 Per Hour Raise. Service Trades Council Union, which represents around 42,000 cast members who work the front lines at Walt Disney World, has been in negotiations with Walt Disney Company for months now and has suggested Union members reject Disney’s latest proposal of a $1 dollar-an-hour raise.

Service Trades Council Union Negotiation Update:

Today the Company presented the Union with its best offer. The offer on wages is essentially the same as the original offer that only provides an initial $1.00 increase for most STCU workers. The leadership of all six (6) unions of the STCU are unanimously recommending workers vote NO on this offer.

Disney workers are facing extreme financial difficulties including inflation, which has caused the price of food and rent to skyrocket. $16.00 per hour in 2023 does not keep up with the rising cost of living. Every worker needs an initial raise larger than $1.00 to address these concerns.

The Unions will be scheduling a vote for all STCU members in the coming weeks and will provide those details as soon as possible.

FAA Halts All Flight Departures Due to System Outage

Update: January 11, 2023, at 9:40 a.m. ET

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Twitter that the full ground stop on U.S. flights has been lifted as tech teams continue to repair the downed Notice to Air Missions system (NOTAM).

The Federal Aviation Administration has halted all domestic flight departures across the United States Wednesday after the system providing pilots with pre-flight safety notices went offline.

The FAA said in a statement it had ordered airlines to stand flights down until at least 9 a.m. Eastern Time while it tried to restore it Notice to Air Missions system.

The FAA is working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System. We are performing final validation checks and reloading the system now.

Operations across the National Airspace System are affected.

Most airlines had already chosen to ground their own craft due to the system’s failure early Wednesday. The failure has so far resulted in some 400 canceled flights across the U.S., according to FlightAware. The tracker also showed that more than 1,150 flights within, into, or out of the U.S. were delayed.

Many flights across the United States are affected even at the Orlando International Airport. This is the first time this has happened since 9-11.

The Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg shared this statement.

I have been in touch with FAA this morning about an outage affecting a key system for providing safety information to pilots. FAA is working to resolve this issue swiftly and safely so that air traffic can resume normal operations, and will continue to provide updates.
