Governor Ron Desantis Hosting Special Session to Discuss the Future of Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District

Next Week Florida’s Governor Ron Desantis is Hosting a Special Session to Discuss the Future of Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District. After announcing his proposed budget Wednesday, the governor claimed big change is coming for Walt Disney World.

Dissolving Disney's Reedy Creek Improvement District

“Disney will not have self-governing status anymore. We’re gonna make sure that there are no special legal privileges and they’re abiding by the same laws. That will be in the bill and we’re gonna make sure that they are paying their fair share of taxes and the debt,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.

Reedy Creek Improvement District (the “District”) is a progressive form of government, created in 1967 by a special Act of the Florida Legislature, the purpose of which is to support and administer certain aspects of the economic development and tourism within District boundaries. With an administration office located on Hotel Plaza Boulevard in Lake Buena Vista, the District encompasses approximately 25,000 acres in both Orange and Osceola counties, servicing 19 landowners, including Walt Disney Co. and its wholly-owned affiliates. RCID operates in accordance with its Charter and Chapter 189, Florida Statutes, and The Uniform Special Districts Accountability Act. Additional information is contained in the legislation.

Disney Updating Staterooms on the Disney Magic

Disney is updating some of the staterooms on the Disney Magic! These staterooms are being converted from Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah to Concierge Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah.

The category of several Disney Magic staterooms is being converted.

Eleven Category 4A staterooms, Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, are being converted into Category 3A , Concierge Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah accommodations. The furnishings and amenities will be upgraded for sailings beginning May 5, 2023 and beyond, and will be available for booking beginning Feb. 1, 2023.

The impacted staterooms are as follows:

In anticipation of the conversion, guests with existing reservations are not impacted by this change. Please note, these staterooms will continue to be Category 4A staterooms for available sail dates prior to May 5, 2023.

Splash Mountain Pressed Penny Machine Still Available at the Magic Kingdom

Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom is no more but guests can still get a Splash Mountain pressed penny (or 3)! This pressed penny machine can be found near the restrooms by the Frontierland railroad station.

This pressed penny machine has three different designs with two being Splash Mountain themed. The two Splash Mountain pennies feature characters riding the ride. One penny has Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald while the other penny has B’rer Rabbit, B’rer Fox, and B’rer Bear. The third penny features Timothy Q. Mouse.

You can get one souvenir coin for $1 or 3 coins for $3.

On the last day that Splash Mountain was open, the line for the attraction was over 200 minutes long. The pressed penny machine line got super long as well! If you missed out on getting the pressed pennies then, they are still available.

Harrison Ford Reveals Why He Returned for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. In a recent interview with Variety, Harrison Ford went into some details on why he wanted to return to the Indiana Jones Character. He also gave a brief answer to the burning question “Will this be the end of Dr. Jones?”

“It’s the last time for me.” Harrison Ford said of returning, continuing to say “I always wanted to do it,” Ford shared with Variety about what drew him to the sequel. “I wanted to do the rest of the story to see the end of his career.” when discussing why he returned for Dial of Destiny.

One thing that assuredly won’t be happening is seeing a new actor take over for Harrison Ford as the archaeologist, as confirmed by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

After years of anticipation, Lucasfilm is bringing another Indiana Jones adventure to the big screen. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will arrive in theaters on June 30, 2023, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as our favorite onscreen archaeologist.

Ford is joined by a rich cast, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Oliver Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is directed by James Mangold, with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel producing. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serve as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, is once again composing the score.

Disney Removes All References to Splash Mountain from Kids Play Area. Well, that did not take long! Disney Construction Crews have been moving fast to board up the now-shuttered Splash Mountain at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Also, they are removing any signs of the name around the beloved attraction.

The Laughing Place was a kids playground area associated with Splash Mountain. Located under the train station platform right before the open area to get to the bathrooms. While it is still a playground, all signage of The laughing Place is now gone. All that remains is the safety instruction sign.

Disney was quick to remove the ride from maps, the My Disney Experience app, and the website. Removing them within a few minutes of the last rider going down the falls.

First announced in 2020, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome.

Along the way, guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film as they are brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s story.

Daisy Duck Receives New Window on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. Did you know Daisy Duck has her own Flower Shop in Disney’s Magic Kingdom? Not only is she the Cast member who operates the shop, but she only sells Daisies. Daisy Duck has a beautiful and stylish sundress on that is blue with orange trim and white polka dots. She is holding a spade shovel.

A new window display is on presentation featuring our favorite sassy duck. If you head towards Cinderella Castle while walking down main Street USA and hang a right at Uptown Jewelers onto Center Street, you can see the new display. It is right under the Dance Studio.

Most Popular Disney100 Name Tag Design Chosen By Disneyland Cast Members

The Disney100 celebration is underway at the Disneyland Resort and Cast Members have received a new Disney100 name tag design! Each Cast Member got to choose a Disney character name to add to their name tag.

Some cast members chose lesser-known characters, but Erick Carmona, who works in Food and Beverage, chose Mickey Mouse. “He’s the original, and I have a lot of memories with him and my mom… I even had a Mickey Mouse lunch pail when I was a kid in elementary and so I just have a lot of memories with Mickey.”

The character name appears underneath the Cast Member’s name where their hometown used to appear.

Wonder which character was the top pick for cast? Look no further than the mischievous little blue genetic experiment from a faraway planet – Stitch!

Orange County Register shared the top 10 characters chosen and we’re surprised where Mickey Mouse ended up on the list.

New Blue Magic Kingdom Road Signs Installed plus New Traffic Patterns at Disney World. In 2018 Disney construction crews started working in the Magic Kingdom parking lot area to enhance raids, fix traffic backups, and basically overhaul the roads. We finally can see an end date with the opening of the new traffic patterns. Of course, we have no clue why Disney chose the new blue directional signs for the MK area. The purple was so much better.

Driving in this morning to Disney’s Magic Kingdom towards The Contemporary we almost went the wrong way since crews opened up the new exit towards Floridian Way, leading to Polynesian Resort / Shade of Green / Magnolia / Palm Golf Courses / Grand Floridian Resort.

Below you can read an article we wrote back in 2018 about the first new bridge to open, so this construction has been going on for many years.

The right exit continues World Dr towards Wilderness Lodge / Shuttle Buses / Rideshare / Contemporary Resort.

This new traffic pattern comes after last month right around Race Weekend Disney opened the new bridge over and underpasses coming out of the Magic Kingdom Parking lot. This new traffic pattern will surely relieve traffic back ups.

Final asphalt is going down now, and overnight crews are installing signage and new arrows directing cars to the new patterns.
