New Director Announced for Captain Marvel 2. According to Deadline, Nia DeCosta (Candyman) has been signed on to direct Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson. Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) has also been tapped to pen the script for the film.
The first film shared the origin story for the Air Force Pilot turned Superhero, Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, and was set back in the 90’s. It is currently unknown if the sequel will also take place before her introduction to the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War or if the story will pick up on what Danvers is up to post Avengers: Endgame.
Rumors have been swirling for months that Henry Cavill will be joining Brie Larson, potentially as the new Wolverine, and will at first be considered the villain of the film. This has the potential to be the first time one of the X-Men characters will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There has been no official word from Marvel Studios about Cavill’s casting and Brie Larson is the only credited cast member at this time.
Currently, Captain Marvel 2 is set to premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022. No delays in production have been announced at the time of writing. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Marvel!
