‘Mythbusters’ Grant Imahara Built His Own Animatronic “Baby Yoda”. Engineer, Technician, and science advocate, Grant Imahara is a self-proclaimed huge fan of all things Star Wars, and it seems he has quickly become a fan of The Mandalorian on Disney+! The Mythbusters star took it upon himself to create his very own animatronic The Child inspired by the character in the series, but it seems this animatronic puppet didn’t cost Imahara the same $5 million price tag of the original used in the The Mandalorian.

Imahara shared his collaborative effort via his Twitter and Facebook pages and fans are going gaga over “Baby Yoda” all over again! The best part is, Grant did not just build the animatronic for fun. He plans on touring Children’s Hospitals, likely dressed as “Mando,” with The Child.

Grant shared, “Pleased to present my newest creation: a fully animatronic Baby Yoda. It’s been three months of hard work and countless revisions. He’s a personal project that I started in early December. I did all the mechanical design, programming, and 3D printed the molds. He’s currently running a continuous sequence, but soon I’ll be able to trigger specific moods and reactions, as well as incorporate sound. Special thanks to Lauren Markland for creating the silicone skin, painting and hand-punching the hair, Lindsay Hamilton for the coat and jumpsuit, and Project 842 for the incredible digital model. This is a not-for-profit project. We’ll be touring children’s hospitals and our first visit is scheduled for April!”

Check out these adorable videos of the animatronic at work!

We love seeing the dedication to bring the character to life and the willingness to help brighten the day of children who are going through some of the toughest moments in their childhood.

What do you think of Grant’s “Baby Yoda”? What other functions would you love to see an example of? Did seeing The Child’s reaction to the Chickie Nuggie make you giggle like me? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
