'Doctor Strange' Director Wants To Direct First 'Star Wars' Horror Movie

Doctor Strange‘ Director Wants To Direct First ‘Star Wars‘ Horror Movie. A since deleted tweet by Director Scott Derrickson, has Star Wars fans in a buzz over the idea of a horror film set in the Star Wars universe. Derrickson was asked, “What kind of Star Wars movie would [Derrickson] make?” and it’s not like any other Star Wars movie we have seen before!

Derrickson shared, “Just asked what kind of Star Wars movie I would make. I answered that I would make Hoth, an R-rated frozen planet horror film in the vein of The Thing or Lovecraft’s In the Mountains of Madness, with zero connection to any previous characters or storylines.”

Likely, Scott deleted the tweet after it began to be twisted by news sites who made it sound like something was ‘in the works’ at Lucasfilm, but this was merely an innocent “What if…?” question from a young Star Wars fan. Scott did share this post to his twitter account calling out ScreenRant for their misleading title regarding the original tweet.

Though Derrickson believes “it’ll never happen,” it has left fans wondering how well a Star Wars film actually could do as a horror movie. The premise, though relatively vague, is exciting and would leave fans regretting not using the bathroom before sitting down in theaters. For kids who grew up with the original trilogy in theaters this idea does not seem too farfetched, especially after the scenes featured on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. That Wampa that captured Luke Skywalker still haunts many Star Wars fans to this day!

The chances of actually ever seeing a Star Wars horror film are next to nothing, but it would be great to see at least a short film made by fans to see how that could be accomplished. Any films students up for the challenge?
