Lin-Manuel Miranda Drops Brand-New ‘Moana’ Single, “Along the Way”

Get ready to update your favorite Disney playlists! A brand-new Moana single officially arrived yesterday, giving fans a vibrant first taste of the musical feast coming to Disney’s highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Moana.

Titled “Along The Way,” the gorgeous new track was written by the legendary, award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. In a beautiful collision of the past and present worlds of Motunui, the song is performed by a trio of powerhouse voices: Catherine Laga‘aia (who portrays Moana in the upcoming live-action film), Dwayne Johnson (reprising his iconic role as the demigod Maui), and Auli‘i Cravalho (the original voice behind Moana in both animated films).

Along with the song’s audio launch, a brand-new music video for “Along The Way” also debuted yesterday!

To celebrate the release, Disney has shared an exciting look behind the scenes at the development and recording process of the track. The featurette includes fresh interviews with Lin-Manuel Miranda, the filmmakers, and the star-studded vocal trio.

Reflecting on the track, Lin-Manuel Miranda shared his excitement about returning to the franchise:

“It was such a joy to drop back into the world of ‘Moana’ again and write ‘Along The Way.’ Auliʻi and Catherine’s voices blend so beautifully, and writing for Dwayne as Maui is just pure fun. I’m grateful that we were able to create something special for this brand-new version of our wayfinder’s story.”

The rollout for “Along The Way” is just the beginning of a massive summer of music for Disney fans. Here is the official breakdown of the upcoming soundtrack release schedule:

• June 26 – Original Soundtrack Release: The Moana Original Soundtrack officially drops digitally and in ATMOS. It will feature original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina, including the new single.
• July 8 – Deluxe Soundtrack Digital Release: The Deluxe version lands digitally and in ATMOS, adding Mark Mancina’s full score and instrumental tracks to the original song lineup.
• July 10 – Score Album & Collectible Vinyl: The standalone Original Score album hits streaming services, and the core Soundtrack (Songs) becomes available on vinyl in multiple collectible versions.
• July 31 – “Moana: Voices Across The Ocean” Album: Executive-produced by Dwayne Johnson, Lauren Hashian, Tiana Nonosina Liufau, and Kayla Fa‘amaligi, this inspired-by album honors the music of the Pacific. It features 15 tracks from indigenous Pacific artists representing seven islands and cultures—including Stan Walker, Dinah Jane, Iam Tongi, Paula Fuga, Maoli, and Common Kings.
