Disney Honors Dolly Parton’s Timeless Legacy on Dolly Parton Day
Country music icon Dolly Parton is receiving a special celebration across The Walt Disney Company! In honor of the newly established “Give Like Dolly Day,” Disney is honoring the beloved global icon’s entertainment legacy and lifelong commitment to philanthropy.
Observed annually on September 25 (a fun play on her iconic hit track “9 to 5”), “Give Like Dolly Day” highlights Dolly’s dedication to helping children and inspiring communities around the world to make a positive impact.
As part of the nationwide celebration, fans of the classic 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5 can catch the film back on the big screen! A restored version of the movie will run in theaters for a limited one-week engagement from October 9 through October 15.
Tickets are available for purchase, and the theatrical release supports a great cause: Disney will donate net proceeds from every U.S. ticket sold to The Dollywood Foundation in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to millions of children globally.
The celebrations extend beyond the theater screen:
- CMA Television Special: The Country Music Association announced CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton. Filmed at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville, the two-hour special airs live on October 21 on ABC, streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and internationally, and on Hulu the following day. Proceeds from the special will also benefit the Imagination Library.
- Now Streaming: Fans can stream the 20/20 Dolly Parton special on Disney+ and Hulu, featuring archival footage and interviews celebrating her life and career.
