Over at Magic Kingdom’s Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn, I happened upon a hidden gem, the Mickey Mouse Mini Dome Cake. It is described as a flourless chocolate cake, with a spicy chocolate mousse, centered with a creme brûlée filling, and covered in chocolate ganache. It also has chocolate Mickey-shaped ears and a white chocolate piece with an image of classic Mickey on it.
This decadent sweet treat costs $6.99 plus tax. It would be a good use of a snack credit on the dining plan. Let me just say, it is so worth it. While most people go to Pecos Bill for their toppings bar, I was on a mission for a gluten-free sweet treat, and this Mickey dome cake did not disappoint.
Let’s break this down layer by layer. The ganache was rich and smooth. Absolutely delicious. The spicy element you find in the chocolate mousse. It’s not really that spicy if you are afraid of heat, but boy does it add a delightful little punch to the mousse. The cayenne pepper mixed with the chocolate was such a welcomed cross of flavors. It was my favorite part. The creme brûlée was just the creamy center this very chocolaty treat needed to help balance the flavors. The flourless chocolate cake was a tasty thin layer at the bottom. I do wish there was a better ratio of cake to mousse. The chocolate pieces added a nice little crunch.
Overall, I would get it again in a heartbeat. It’s one of my new favorites. If you have to eat a gluten-free diet, this is a must have treat. It’s one of those dessert that do not taste gluten free. Also don’t knock it just because it’s labeled ”flourless” it doesn’t need it to be delicious. I savored every bite!
