Central Florida Zoo Introduces Adorable Sloth Leeloo, the Smallest in Its Care

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is shining the spotlight on one of its smallest residents, introducing guests to Leeloo, an adorable Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth with a big personality.

Named after the iconic character from The Fifth Element, Leeloo is believed to be the smallest, and possibly the youngest, sloth currently in the Zoo’s care. She’s so tiny that some of the pieces of produce in her daily diet are actually longer than her claws.

According to the Zoo, Leeloo was very shy during her first few weeks, preferring to stay tucked away in her hanging cubby. Recently, however, she’s become much more confident. She now happily comes out to accept food from her keepers and has started spending more time exploring her habitat.

When she’s ready to relax, Leeloo has a favorite hangout. Most days, visitors can find her curled up in her hanging bucket, enjoying a peaceful sloth nap between her adventures.
