Amy Sedaris Joins Jon Favreau’s Upcoming Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Series for Disney+

Ready for a new twist on Disney’s OG toon? Amy Sedaris has officially joined the cast of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Jon Favreau’s upcoming animation/live-action hybrid series for Disney+. And yes, we’re already feeling lucky. 🍀🐰

A Familiar Duo Reunites

This marks another reunion for Sedaris and Favreau, who previously worked together on Chef and The Lion King remake (Sedaris voiced a guinea fowl in the latter). She also appeared as fan-favorite Peli Motto in Favreau’s Star Wars shows The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, clearly proving she knows her way around a galaxy, rabbit hole, or both.

In Oswald, Sedaris will reportedly play the mother of a character named Taylor, portrayed by young actor Ryder Allen. She joins an already announced cast that includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers and Mykal-Michelle Harris, rounding out a youthful and energetic ensemble.

What’s the Story?

Disney’s keeping the lid tightly sealed on plot details, but we do know the show will spotlight Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the mischievous, energetic character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927, before Mickey Mouse was even a twinkle in Walt’s eye.

The new series will mix live-action and animation, and with Favreau at the helm as writer, director, and executive producer, expectations are sky-high. Sedaris’s role as Taylor’s mom hints at heartfelt storytelling amid the cartoon antics, a blend Favreau has mastered time and again.

The Long Road Back to Oswald

Oswald has had a wild ride. After Universal took control of the character in 1928, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks famously responded by creating Mickey Mouse. The Walt Disney Company didn’t regain Oswald’s rights until 2006, and in a quirky twist of fate, he entered the public domain in 2023.

Now, nearly a century after his creation, Oswald is finally getting the spotlight he deserves on Disney+. No release date has been announced yet, but with casting heating up, the wait may not be long.

Sedaris: A Comedy Icon

Beyond her collaborations with Favreau, Amy Sedaris has established a niche as one of the quirkiest and most beloved comedic performers. From Strangers with Candy to BoJack Horseman and her Emmy-nominated sketch series At Home with Amy Sedaris, she brings a signature charm that fits perfectly with Oswald’s mischievous DNA.

With her aboard, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit just might become Disney+’s next must-watch hit, one that bridges Disney’s vintage past with its ever-evolving future.
