Kelly’s Sunny Swing made its debut at Give Kids The World Village on Valentine’s Day. The name of the Swing was unveiled during a Grand Opening Ceremony. The swing is designed for wheelchair access. At the end of the ceremony, everyone took turns riding the swing for the first time.
Mayor Clayton and Miss Merry were on hand as Pamela Landwirth, President and CEO, shared the story of how Kelly’s Sunny Swing came to be named. The swing is named after a Wish child who visited in the 1990’s. The child’s family sent Ms. Landwirth a heart-warming letter that she still carries with her today. The power of those words have led to the naming of this gorgeous new attraction.
Wish Families can experience the fun of riding an attraction together as wheelchairs can be rolled on and strapped in. Family members who cannot transfer enjoy the thrill of the swing ride from the comfort of their own chair.
Kelly’s Sunny Swing was donated to Give Kids The World Village by well-known amusement rides manufacturer Zamperla. There are four wheelchair accessible attractions on property. Zamperla also generously donated JJ’s Express Train and Lori’s Magical Flight. Rides manufacturer Vekoma donated The Enchanted Carousel twenty-five years ago.
