Disney has been constantly expanding and adding to the already vast Star Wars universe since its acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. In addition to three new films continuing the story of the Skywalker family and friends, we’ve already gotten two spin-off films and an upcoming live-action series for the Disney+ streaming service in the works. It was recently announced that the creators behind the highly-successful Game of Thrones television series, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, would be producing films for the franchise. Now we have new details in the form of a quote from the head of HBO, that the duo is actually working on three films total.
Speaking with TV Line, HBO network president Casey Bloys commented on the delay in production for Benioff and Weiss’ upcoming show Confederate. “The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies,” Bloys said, referring to the Disney film deal. This is a bit of new information that wasn’t included in the original announcement for the Game of Thrones team’s new Star Wars projects. Could this mean that their films will be another trilogy with a connected story or is it still possible that these could be three separate films all based in the same galaxy far far away? These and other aspects aren’t currently known, but we will be sure to bring you more details on this and all other Star Wars projects as they are released.
