Funko Games to release Game of the Year Award Nominee Disney Game
Funko Games, the creative studio behind fan-favorite Funko POP and Loungefly, is set to release a brand new Disney Game. Disney Kingdomania has been nominated in the “Collectible of the Year” category. We sat down with Funko Games representative Adam Minton at the D23 Expo in California who offered a sneak peek at the game.
While Funko is taking the Disney Gaming scene by storm, they bring with them 20 years of experience in gaming development. The team at Funko Games has been developing and play-testing the most popular games for over two decades.

The studio of about 50 people, collectively signs every game as “Prospero Hall” sharing the credit for each game they release. The team at Funko Games currently has four titles recognized for excellence by Toy Faire. Jurassic World: Legacy of Isla Nublar is nominated in the “Grown-Up Toy of the Year” category. Funko Games was nominated in two categories at the most recent Toy of the Year Awards in February. These nominations were for Disney it’s a small world in the “Game of the Year” category and The Goonies: Never Say Die in the “Grown-Up Game Toy of the Year” category.

Adam Minton believes that what sets Funko Games apart from the competition is the rigorous play testing and development that takes place long before the games hit the shelves. Deep thought and development go into every aspect of the game, from materials used to the overall aesthetic of the board and creative gameplay mechanics.
Minton also believes what makes Funko Games special is that “we are storytellers, that’s what we do we create these deep immersive experiences for fandom and every game we make we design from the ground up from that movie, tv, character, so our target demo is the fan of that license.” Minton used the Goonies: Never Say Die as an example of the revolutionary gaming experience being offered to fans.
…You see it on the shelf and say “I love this movie” then you see the cover of the box with a UV light that goes through it; It’s a Treasure map… on the box of the goonies, just from the cover you can tell that they’re paying attention to the details… this is a solid healthy, meaty game, it’s not your first board game, so we’re hitting the demo and the fandom right from the box, back of the gameboard, telling the story immediately.
We asked Minto what his favorite game and he was quick to answer, Jurrasic Park: The Legacy of Isla Nublar. “It’s spectacular, it’s this massive beast of a game, it was in development over two years, the game box is over 8 pounds, it covers the entire franchise, through 12 adventures which you go through the story by story…”
Funko Games has turned that detail and focus on storytelling to the Disney Community. Currently offering several Disney Games such as Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion (WDW), Haunted Mansion (Disneyland), It’s a Small World, Happiest Day Game, Hocus Pocus Tricks & Wits Card game, and many more.

The game is set in a retro 80’s video game where players must race to save the world together before the game crashes.
