We’ve all been anticipating the reopening of Mission: SPACE! at Epcot ever since it closed for a refurbishment a few months ago. Details about what guests will be treated to when the ride reopens have been trickling out for a few weeks now. Just the other day we learned that the Gary Sinise was being replaced by Gina Torres as the “pre-mission” show narrator. We also learned that the green and orange sides of the ride would receive updated missions with the green side reviving a new mission entirely. Today, we are getting our first look at the new missions thanks to Attractions Magazine.
On the green side, the Earth mission is a completely new option and is designed to be the less intense of all of the options. Guests now only have to be 40 inches to ride this attraction. The new mission takes guests on an orbit around Planet Earth via the Kennedy Space Center.
Take a look for yourself:
Over in orange, the mission to Mars itself hasn’t changed much but the visuals are much different. The group that does visuals for the Star Wars movies was tapped to do the same on this updated mission. In addition, this same group is credited with doing the anticipated new Secrets of the Empire attraction coming to Disney Springs.
Here is the new orange mission to Mars:
As we mentioned, the “pre-mission” portion of the ride was update with Gina Torres at the narrator. Here is you first look at her role:
Mission: SPACE! is scheduled to reopen this Sunday, August 13. However, we are hearing that at least green is already open for a soft opening.
