First look at a new scene set in the 1980s on Carousel of Progress

Disney fans have reason to celebrate as Tomorrowland’s legendary Carousel of Progress undergoes a massive, multi-decade leap into the future. Set to reopen in late spring 2027, the attraction is receiving a comprehensive timeline overhaul, shifting the core family’s journey 60 years forward—starting in 1969 with the Apollo moon landing and taking guests straight through to a retro-futuristic tomorrow.

The centerpiece of this update is a brand-new 1980s scene along with star-studded casting announcements that give the fan-favorite family an iconic new voice.

Bryan Cranston & Jamie Lee Curtis Take the Mic

Leading the cast into the new era are two heavyweights: Bryan Cranston steps into the slippers of Father (John), while Jamie Lee Curtis voices Mother (Sarah). Their addition brings fresh, star-powered warmth to the production—which Disney calls the longest-running stage show in American theater history—while honoring the heart and optimism of the original characters.

First Look: Halloween Night, 1985

In a major structural first for the attraction, Sarah takes center stage in Act 2. Set on Halloween Night in 1985, the scene flips the classic dynamic:

  • Sarah’s Command Center: Mother leads the dialogue inside the house, highlighting how mid-80s gadgets—from microwave ovens to early home computing—are revolutionizing household living.
  • John’s Porch Duty: Father (John) can be seen outside on the front porch handing out trick-or-treat candy to neighborhood kids.
  • Uncle Orville’s Privacy Struggle: In classic Carousel fashion, Uncle Orville is back in the bathroom, still complaining that there’s “no privacy around here!”
