A Disney Treat: Donald’s Tales of Adventure Candy Display

In celebration of Disneyland’s 70th, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel unveiled a delightful addition earlier this year: the Donald’s Tales of Adventure Buffet, now open inside Storytellers Cafe.

To further commemorate the exciting new Donald’s Tales of Adventure Buffet at Storytellers Cafe, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel has added a delightful touch of artistry to its lobby. Guests are now greeted by a stunning chocolate sculpture, a sweet testament to the enhanced dining experience and the ongoing celebration within the hotel.

The display sign proudly reveals the dedication poured into this “adventurous showpiece featuring Donald & friends”: a staggering 400 hours of meticulous work by the talented Disney Culinary Team, brought to life using the following delectable ingredients:

  • 80 pounds of crisped rice cereal
  • 80 pounds of powdered sugar
  • 60 pounds of fondant
  • 40 pounds of white chocolate
  • 25 pounds of marshmallows
  • 18 pounds of egg whites

This “Adventure Structure” has been thoughtfully designed to complement the Grand Californian’s established aesthetic and warm ambiance. It also acts as a charming nod to the newly introduced Donald’s Tales of Adventure Dinner Buffet at Storytellers Cafe, strengthening the thematic connection throughout the hotel.

This intricate chocolate structure unfolds in stacked layers, beginning with a base of edible “grass” and “dirt.” Ascending from there, a charming light-up “water” feature complete with sculpted fish catches the eye. Above this, an awning proudly displays a 70th anniversary medallion, with a flickering chocolate campfire nestled beneath. The delightful scene culminates with figures of Donald and his friends engaged in a spot of fishing around a rocky outcrop.

Perched fittingly at the summit of the chocolate rock cliff stands Donald Duck, ready for adventure in his outdoorsy attire, complete with a backpack and walking stick. Just below him, Goofy and Clarabelle appear to be thoroughly enjoying the scenic surroundings. Circling the other sides of the rocky formation, we find Daisy engrossed in a book, while nearby, Pluto joyfully chases a butterfly near a cascading chocolate waterfall.

Descending further down the chocolate creation, our eyes are drawn to the campfire scene, encircled by artfully placed smaller chocolate rocks just above the circular “fish tank.” Within this edible aquarium, several sculpted fish appear to be swimming. Notably, one bears a striking resemblance to the fish version of “The Incredible Mr. Limpet,” a clever Easter egg also found in The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.

This whimsical tank is seemingly supported by a delicate chocolate twig, beneath which rests what appears to be a larger rendition of Donald’s backpack, accompanied by two books. The title of one book, “The Perfect Cast: Standout Fishing Techniques,” hints at Donald’s angling adventures. Adding another celebratory touch, a bronze 70th anniversary medallion lies atop the red-covered book.

The base of this delightful chocolate creation is a miniature landscape in itself, artfully covered with textured chocolate “grass” interspersed with meticulously crafted chocolate pinecones, whimsical mushrooms, and smooth chocolate rocks. Adding a touch of Disney magic, a charming Mickey-shaped s’more completes this delightful foundation.
