Construction has been completed on the life-size Gingerbread House, complete with hidden Mickey’s, in the lobby of the Grand Floridian Resort. This celebrates the 17th year that the Grand Floridian has provided this experience. Guests will be amazed at not only the detail that has went into the decoration of the Gingerbread House, but the aroma that meets you as you approach.
Erich Herbitschek is the pastry chef behind this amazing creation. Are you wondering what goes into baking for such a large scale project:
- 1,050 lbs. of honey
- 800 lbs. flour
- 600 lbs. of chocolate
- 600 lbs. of powdered sugar
- 140 pints of egg whites
- 35 different spices
When you walk to the backside of the house you will find a shop inside where you can buy limited edition holiday pins and treats including a gingerbread shingle, similar to what you will see on the house. They are delicious! Gluten-free treats are also available for guests to purchase.
For a better look at the Gingerbread House and to see the ribbon cutting ceremony (complete with Mickey Mouse!) and the pastry team behind the creation check out this video:
