The Disney Wonder was on its way to the Cayman Islands when they spotted a rustic boat with 12 people inside. The vessel carrying the migrants, which could only be described as dangerous and unseaworthy was stopped by the Wonder and the passengers were transported to the Disney Cruise Ship.
The migrants were turned over to authorities in the Cayman Island, officials there say more than 120 Cuban migrants have landed there since January. Officials think the increase in Cuban migrants trying to enter the US may be due to warming of the relationship between Cuba and the US, they are afraid they will no longer be able to enter the country welcomed.
This is not the first time the Disney Wonder has picked up migrants, in 2013 the Wonder picked up 8 migrants stranded on a raft outside of Key West.
Cruise ship lines have an agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard to pick up migrants found at sea and carry them to the next port.
Early we reported the Disney Wonder won best entertainment and best service in the cruise critics awards.
