Disney+ Sees Largest Surge In Subscribers For Streaming Services During Coronavirus Concerns

Disney+ Sees Largest Surge In Subscribers For Streaming Services During Coronavirus Concerns. With many states and countries issuing “Stay at Home” and “Shelter in Place” orders, it’s no wonder folks are flocking to streaming services to offer up entertainment during the mandated down time.

All major streaming services have seen heavy increased in subscribers, particularly those offering free-trials with paid services after the trial period is over. Many subs are sticking with the streaming services and subscriber counts keep rising as more people are ordered to stay home. Of course the #StayHomeSaveLives movement is helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19, aka Coronavirus, and keep susceptible people healthy during the pandemic.

Sign-ups for popular streaming services between March 7-9 versus March 14-16 saw some significant subscriber increases, particularly for Disney+, HBO, and Showtime, all seeing 75% or higher spikes in sign-ups.

  • Disney+ (+212%)
  • HBO (+90%)
  • Showtime (+78%)
  • Starz (+49%)
  • Netflix (+47%)
  • Hulu (+30%)
  • CBS All Access (+16%)
  • Apple TV+ (+10%)

The largest spikes began after schools were ordered to be closed for extended periods of time, businesses were forces to shut down operations, and restaurants, cafe’s, and bars could no longer accommodate sit-down guests due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Antenna has been tracking new sign-up growth for the service during 2020 so far and shared the significant spike beginning around March 14th.
