Disney Extends Construction Permit for Former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
The former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser may be closed for good, but work at the building is far from finished. Disney has extended a construction permit tied to the former immersive hotel as the property continues its transformation into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

The permit covers general construction at 201 S. Studio Drive and lists Balfour Beatty Construction LLC as the contractor. It appears to be an extension of a permit filed in August 2025, with the new expiration date pushed to August 25, 2027. The filing came through Disney’s Facility Asset Management team, suggesting the work is focused more on general construction and maintenance than major new themed additions.
That does not mean the building is staying frozen in time, though. Disney has already confirmed that the former Galactic Starcruiser will be converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering, and separate permits have pointed to ongoing work in and around the property. Some of the Star Wars theming is also being removed as part of that conversion.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened on March 1, 2022, as one of Disney’s most ambitious immersive experiences. Guests boarded the Halcyon for a two-night adventure filled with live entertainment, character interactions, missions, and storylines that unfolded throughout the stay. While the experience earned praise for its ambitious storytelling and live entertainment, the high price quickly became one of its biggest talking points.

The Starcruiser ultimately closed permanently on September 30, 2023, after operating for less than two years. Disney later announced in January 2025 that the building would be repurposed as office space rather than reopening as a guest experience.
For anyone still hoping the Halcyon might one day jump back to lightspeed, this permit extension does not point in that direction. Instead, it appears Disney is continuing the long process of giving the former Starcruiser building a very different second act behind the scenes.
