D23 Celebrates 55 Years of Walt Disney World with Special Spotlight Series Event
D23 is celebrating 55 years of Walt Disney World with a special evening at one of the resort’s original Opening Day landmarks. The D23 Spotlight Series: 55 Magical Years of Storytelling will take place on October 4, 2026, at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, bringing together Disney history, Imagineering stories, rare archival treasures, and a little extra pixie dust for VIP guests.

The evening will begin with a special session featuring Disney Legend Joe Rohde, who will reflect on the power of storytelling and highlights from his 40-year career with Walt Disney Imagineering. Rohde’s work has helped shape some of Disney’s most memorable theme park experiences, and his appearance will kick off an evening focused on how storytelling has evolved across Walt Disney World.
The Walt Disney Archives will then turn the spotlight toward one of Walt Disney’s most personal and enduring attractions, the Carousel of Progress. Archivists and Disney Imagineers will share stories from the attraction’s history, showcase newly acquired treasures added to the Archives during the attraction’s ongoing refurbishment, and discuss the storytelling inspiration behind some of the new additions currently in development. Imagineers working on the latest updates to Carousel of Progress are also expected to share a glimpse at some of the magic still to come.
Every guest attending the event will receive a limited-release Walt Disney World Resort pin featuring the classic resort logo. Panel-only tickets are priced at $59 plus a $3 processing fee and include admission to the 55 Magical Years of Storytelling presentation and the commemorative pin. Check-in for panel-only guests begins at 5:15 p.m., with the program running from 6 p.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m.
VIP tickets are priced at $159 plus a $3 processing fee and include everything in the panel-only package along with a dessert reception at the West Rotunda outside Disney’s Contemporary Resort. VIP guests will also have access to two special character meet-and-greet opportunities, receive a coupon package from select Disney Springs partners, and end the evening with fireworks viewing from the Contemporary Resort. VIP check-in begins at 4:45 p.m., followed by the panel at 6 p.m., the dessert reception from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., and fireworks viewing from approximately 9 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Friday, August 28, at 1 p.m. ET. Both D23 Gold and General Members can purchase tickets for themselves and up to three guests, with availability limited and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests must be at least 13 years old to attend, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with their own valid ticket.

Parking will not be available at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for the event. Guests are being directed to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and use Disney transportation to reach the resort.
Between Joe Rohde, Carousel of Progress history, rare Walt Disney Archives treasures, a limited-edition pin, and a fireworks finale for VIP guests, this feels like a pretty fitting way to celebrate 55 years of Walt Disney World storytelling. Great big beautiful tomorrow, indeed.
