Director Taika Waititi Shares the Return of Fan-Favorite Marvel Character in Thor: Love and Thunder. Marvel fans were delighted to hear that Thor: Ragnarok Director, Taika Waititi would be returning to direct the 4th Thor film, Thor: Love and Thunder. This time, Taika was instrumental in getting Natalie Portman to return to the MCU after a noticeable absence since Thor: The Dark World, but Waititi is also responsible for the return of another character in the next Thor film.
Taika Waititi visited with Jimmy Kimmel about his recent work including: Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Love and Thunder. Towards the end of the interview, Waititi opened up about his new Marvel project saying their is “twice the Thor.” Meaning, we will have both Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman as the hammer wielding God and Goddess of Thunder, Thor. Exactly how that will happen has yet to be revealed, but Taika did also share this news…
“My character is coming back, Korg,” he said during the tail end of the conversation. As the audience erupted in applause and cheers, Taika started using his Korg voice to say: “Thank you. Thank you so much for that reaction.”
Though it is easy to see that the option was always there, Taika’s return was all the confirmation fans really needed that Korg could reappear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Korg will appear alongside fellow characters Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Jane Foster/Lady Thor (Natalie Portman), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Though these are the only confirmed cast members at the moment, we will likely see Korg’s best buddy, Meik, in Love and Thunder as well.
Taika is hard at work to bring the right story to the screen and confirmed there are several drafts waiting for review by Marvel Studios. “I just finished a couple of drafts of that story,” Waititi told Kimmel. “There’s more Thor! There’s twice as much Thor.”
Are you excited that Korg will return? How do you think Jane Foster will become Lady Thor? We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments.
