New Details Released for ‘Lady and the Tramp‘ Remake Coming to Disney+. As the launch of Disney Plus (Disney+) approaches more details have come to light about what to expect from the highly anticipated streaming service.
One of the strongest selling points for the new streaming service is Disney’s decision to offer exclusive content that will only be viewable on Disney+. Various series such as The Mandalorian, WandaVision, and many others have already been announced, but one of the unexpected titles to pop up was a remake of the Disney Classic, Lady and the Tramp.
According to Disney CEO, Bob Iger, the plan has always been a “direct to home” approach for the remake since day 1. “There was not one discussion about whether we should make that for the big screen,” Disney CEO Bob Iger tells Barron’s. “Everybody said this is a great story, would love to make it again, let’s make it for what we call ‘the service’ internally.”
The story of Lady and the Tramp is set to take place in 1910 and will closely resemble the original animated featured film, similarly to the style of The Lion King remake.
Take a look at the cast of Disney’s Lady and the Tramp (2019):
- Tessa Thompson (Lady)
- Justin Theroux (Tramp)
- Sam Elliott (Trusty, the Bloodhound)
- Benedict Wong (Bull, the Bulldog)
- Janelle Monáe (Peg, the Spaniel)
- Ashley Jensen (Jackie, the Scottish Terrier)
- Kiersey Clemons (Darling)
- Thomas Mann (Jim Dear)
- Yvette Nicole Brown (Aunt Sarah)
- Adrian Martinez (Dog Catcher)
- Arturo Castro (Marco)
Jensen’s character, Jackie, is a gender-bent role from the original films character, Jock, the Scottish Terrier, who was best friends with Trusty, the Bloodhound. Castro’s character, Marco, will be a sympathetic restaurant worker who has a soft spot for Tramp, and will more than likely be showcased in the famous “Bella Notte” scene from the film where Tramp gives Lady the last meatball during their romantic dinner.
According to Variety, Artist Janelle Monáe will be recording two original songs for the film and has reinvented the problematic The Siamese Cat Song” from the original film which Disney has said does not uphold their ideals as a company and will be completely overhauled to better reflect the company’s beliefs. A new/reinvented version of the piece will still be performed by Si and Am, the siamese cats from the film.
The remake of Lady and the Tramp will premiere November 12, 2019 on Disney+. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Disney!

I guess I really don’t understand what was wrong with the original Siamese cat song? There wasn’t any sterotypical language or mockery of orientals?
