Creative Control Over Deadpool and X-Men Franchises Officially Given to Kevin Feige. Though the Disney-Fox merger became official in the spring, the merger has been rather slow going as the two companies figure out what and who will stay and go.
Fox Studios head, Emma Watts, had been rumored to leave the studio once creative control over her projects was released to Marvel Studios, but a recent report by Deadline says in exchange for the loss of the Marvel based franchises, Deadpool and X-Men, Watts would now oversee the Avatar films for the studio. This exchange seems to be a happy medium for all parties involved and Watts has decided to stay with Fox Studio for the time being.
Marvel fans will be excited to know that Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, is excited to incorporate characters such as Deadpool, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
“I’m extremely excited about those characters and about bringing Marvel’s First Family up to the platform and the level that they deserve,” Feige said.
“The truth is, I’m excited for all of them. I’m excited, and it’s not just the marquee names you know — there are hundreds of names on those documents, on those agreements,” Feige stated while at the Golden Globes. “And the fact that Marvel is as close as we may ever get now to having access to all of the characters, is something I’ve been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel. And it’s very exciting.”
Marvel Studios has not shared any official plans for how they will introduce the characters into the MCU, or if the current casts of said franchises will stay in those roles or be recast. The only consistent information has been the expressed awareness that Marvel Studios wishes for Ryan Reynold’s to remain as the “Merc with a mouth” Deadpool. Other stars, such as Josh Brolin, have shared their willingness to play along in the merger with Disney and keep their roles.
