Now that the “big game” and all of Disney‘s upcoming movie trailers are behind us let’s take a moment to see the latest trailer from Marvel. X-Men: First Class casting was reported here on Chip & Co back in August and I’m happy to say that the new trailer looks amazing! It makes me want to play the entire X-Men catalog and microwave some popcorn right now!
X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
By all appearances it looks like a reboot of the franchise of sorts focusing on the formative years of the X-Men with a young Professor X and Magneto. The effects look amazing and will no doubt set off another trilogy of films to complete the relationship of Marvel and FOX before the rights to the X-Men films get turned over to Marvel Studios/Disney.

I, for one, can’t get enough of the X-men franchise. They are movies that my wife and I love to actually go to the theater and see on the opening weekend. Let’s hope FOX can circle back around to characters like Wolverine, Rogue, Storm and Iceman sometime soon. I’m sure fans wouldn’t mind recasting those characters as long as the stories are solid. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this new film holds up to the fanboys and casual fans alike so we can continue to witness epic mutant battles on the big screen. X-Men: First Class opens June 3, 2011.
