Chris Hemsworth Has No Plans to Retire From Marvel Studios After ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘. Marvel Studios star, Chris Hemsworth has shared previously that he intends on keeping the role of Thor Odinson “forever” or until Marvel Studios decides to axe the character in the films.
The God of Thunder, Hemsworth himself, recently spoke with Elle Man Magazine in Poland and reiterated that he has no plans to leave Marvel any time soon. “I am not going into any retirement period. Thor is way too young for that. He’s only 1,500 years old!” Chris added, “It is definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.”
“After reading the script [for Thor: Love and Thunder], I can say that I am very excited,” Hemsworth continued. “For sure there will be a lot of love and a lot of lightning in this production. I’m glad that after everything that happened in Avengers: Endgame, I’m still part of the Marvel Universe and we can continue the story of Thor.”
Earlier this year Hemsworth spoke with The Philadelphia Inquirer about how impressed he is with the new script sharing that, “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read in years. It’s Taika at his most extreme and at his best. If the version I read is the one we get running with, it’s going to be pretty insane.”
In Summer 2019, Thor: Love and Thunder was announced to a very surprised Comic-Con audience and grabbed the headlines faster than Thor can call Mjolnir or Stormbreaker to his hands. What surprised fans the most was the announcement that Natalie Portman would not only be returning to the franchise, but she would be playing the iconic role of “Lady Thor”, whom we now know to be “The Mighty Thor” thanks to an update from Portman herself earlier this year.
There has been lots of chatter about the upcoming Marvel Studios film, especially as fans become more inquisitive. Due to the pandemic, San Diego Comic Con was canceled for 2020, but this has lead many studios, actors, directors, and other entertainment groups to share the news intended for the special event directly with fans.
Director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) is set to return for Thor: Love and Thunder and shared some insight on how the script is coming along for the film and what he is excited to explore in the new story. “I think it’s going really good,” Waititi shared with BBC News, “We’ve been writing the script off and on for over a year and… actually, this week, doing another pass on it,” and went on to say the script for Thor 4 is “so insane” and “also very romantic.” I want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”
Currently, Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder‘s release date has been pushed back to March 25, 2022 after delays from the pandemic have altered theater premiere schedules for the coming months and years. The fourth Thor film will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Taika Waititi (Korg), and appearance by The Guardians of the Galaxy, though it is unknown which members of the team will be featured in the film. As stated before, filming for Love and Thunder will begin in Australia at the beginning of 2021 and we can’t wait to see production begin.
