To Infinity and Beyond: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Gets a Galactic Upgrade!
Calling all Junior Space Rangers! It looks like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom just got a much-needed tech upgrade, and it’s not just a mirage in hyperspace. After 26 years of intergalactic battles, Disney has replaced the film projectors in the climactic tunnel scene with modern digital projectors, making Zurg’s evil schemes (and the cosmic scenery) crisper and brighter than ever.
Back in December, Disney filed a permit for the new projectors and enlisted Maddox Electric Company, a longtime collaborator, to handle the installation. Now, the tunnel sequence—where Emperor Zurg’s menacing ship looms against the vastness of space—looks sharper than a Space Ranger’s aim.
It’s hard to fully appreciate the updates in the video, but trust us: the colors pop, the stars shimmer, and the battle feels even more intense.
