Mad Hatter’s Hat Loses Its Tip as Grand Floridian Splash Pad Reopens
The Mad Hatter may still be mad, but his hat has apparently learned to keep its cool. The Alice in Wonderland-themed splash pad at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has reopened following a refurbishment, bringing the whimsical water play area back for guests after being closed since mid-August.

During the refurbishment, Disney redid the flooring throughout the splash pad. Most of the Wonderland-inspired area looks much the same as it did before the closure, but there is one noticeable change waiting at the top of the play structure.
The giant Mad Hatter hat is no longer tipping forward to dump water onto unsuspecting guests below. Previously, the oversized hat would slowly fill before tipping over and sending a cascade of water down onto the splash pad. Following the refurbishment, the hat has been bolted into a stationary position. Water still pours from the hat thanks to its angled placement, but the dramatic tipping motion is gone.

It is unclear whether the change is permanent or if Disney could eventually restore the hat’s movement. For now, guests can once again tumble down the rabbit hole for some splash pad fun, just without quite as much of a surprise from above. The reopening comes as refurbishment work continues in other areas of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, including work around the bus walkway and Grand Floridian Cafe.
