Be Brave and Try This New Merida Cupcake From Hollywood Studios

Merida Cupcake at Hollywood Studios for Disney’s Princess Week

Disney’s World Princess Week celebration continues as we sample more sweets at Walt Disney World! Hollywood Studios has become a hub for some of the best snacks to land, but how did their princess offerings measure up? The Trolley Car Café is serving two of these limited-time offerings. One is an Ariel brownie that we sampled and loved, the other is a Merida cupcake that may have missed the mark a little bit.

I’m a straight shooter, much like Merida herself, so I’ll admit that I wasn’t completely satisfied with this dessert. The dark chocolate cake is moist and carries a good flavor throughout. I can’t find fault with that! The disappointing factor is the amount of filling in this cupcake. I love caramel buttercream, but there was so little on the inside of this cake that the flavor was irrelevant and the only thing the frosting added was a bit more moisture. Maybe some of the cupcakes have more filling, but this was a major disappointment. There is plenty of buttercream frosting on the top, which helps make up for the lack on the inside, but it doesn’t have a distinctive flavor. The crunchy pearls on the sides add great texture. If you love chocolate cupcakes, this one is decent! However, be wary if you’re buying it for the filling.

The look of this cupcake is a great selling point. The orange and green frosting reminded me of Merida’s iconic look. The whole thing is covered in edible glitter, which made it extra fun for the kids. The chocolate arrow poking out of the frosting is the perfect final detail, but it melts quickly in the hot sun, so don’t take too long to eat it! It costs $5.49 before tax and you can find it at the Trolley Car Café.

Overall, the Merida cupcake is not a standout, but if you love cupcakes, it’s still worthwhile! Otherwise, try some of the other desserts we’ve eaten during Princess Week, and keep checking back as we look at new Halloween offerings!
