The Disneyland Resort theme parks have been closed for almost a year now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendance at Disney theme parks around the world has bottomed out during the pandemic but analysts predict it will bounce back by 2022.
As the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available to more people and case numbers begin to drop, the pent-up demand for travel and entertainment will grow.

“We believe the parks business has bottomed and we’ll see improved attendance/profitability as the vaccine becomes more widely distributed,” said UBS financial analyst John Hodulik. “We expect parks to approach historical performance and attendance metrics by FYE22 with higher margins given operational improvements implemented during the pandemic.”
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are not expected to fully reopen until this spring or summer due to the COVID-19 restrictions in California. California’s stay-at-home order was recently lifted so outdoor dining in Downtown Disney may resume soon.

According to a UBS analyst report, Disney’s theme parks will be the “beneficiary of vaccine availability and pent-up demand for leisure travel” in the second half of 2021. UBS also expects Disney’s US parks will be able to increase capacity limits to 70% by this fall and have attendance fully recover by 2023.
Disney has proven they can handle the new COVID-19 health and safety guidelines at their parks. I’m sure if Disneyland was able to reopen, the parks would be just as safe as their Florida counterparts. And many guests are itching to return to the original Disney theme park.
