We all know and love the big attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, like Star Tours, Rock N Roller Coaster, and the Tower of Terror, but have you ever stopped to check out some of the other attractions and rides at Hollywood Studios? There really are some great ones that are totally worth a look!
Magic of Disney Animation – This is a great guided tour/show where you sit with a live artist for a 10 minute segment called “Drawn to Animation”, where you learn how Disney characters are brought to life. After that, you are led to an area where you can explore a series of interactive workstations, that teach you how characters are created, from drawing and coloring to sound and animation. You can even learn how to draw your own Disney character! This is really a fun attraction that shows you the magic behind the animated Disney movies we all love to watch over and over!
Great Movie Ride – This is one of my favorite rides of all time, and it is definitely one of the more popular ‘non thrill’ rides in Hollywood Studios. You board a tram that takes you through some of the best scenes in move history. You have a cast member who is your ‘tour guide’, and they even get a chance to get in on the movie action! Some of the more notable scenes include Dorothy in Oz (complete with munchkins and the yellow brick road!), Casablanca, and a scene from Alien. It’s a great way to relive some truly amazing movies, and what’s even better is there is movie memorabilia in the queue, and there is concrete hand/footprints of some of Hollywood’s most beloved actors outside the ride! While this attraction tends to be pretty popular, the lines usually aren’t too bad for it, but even if you have to wait – there is plenty to look at while in line
Studio Backlout Tour – This is a movie lover’s dream that starts with a stunt demonstration and continues on through a prop warehouse which leads you on to a tram that takes you on a tour through a real working movie studio, plus you get a chance to experience some recreated effects when a natural disaster hits during the tour! It’s a great way to get that ‘behind the scenes’ look at how movies are made, and the trams are big, which helps keep the wait times down
MuppetVision 3D – Join the muppets for a hilarious 13 minute trip through ‘muppet laboratories’, as they run around in true Muppet fashion, with hilarious jokes and hyjinks along the way! It is pretty corny, especially the 3D effects, so be prepared for that (but us Muppet lovers know to expect a certain amount of corny from that crazy bunch!). While you wait, you are treated to a ‘pre-show’ broadcasted on televisions outside the theater, which is pretty entertaining. It’s a great way to escape the heat and have a few laughs, and of course there’s the perk of the stylish 3D glasses.
One Man’s Dream – An interactive walk-through gallery that features some special memorabilia from the Disney archives, such as the Oscar he won for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a recreation of “Project X” (aka Disney World!), and models of the castles and theme parks. There is also a short film about Walt Disney and his life, including footage of him talking about his famous creation – Mickey! What’s great about this is you can take as much time as you want to stroll through the exhibits and take a chance to learn more about the Man Behind The Mouse – Walt Disney.
Voyage Of The Little Mermaid – It’s 17 minute show that includes a mix of live performances, puppetry, film clips, and other special effects which is sure to please those of all ages. You’ll get to see a mini-version of the movie, as Ariel transforms from Mermaid to human, loses her voice, and finds her true love, Prince Eric. This is a classic movie, and they do a great job of brining it to life through this entertaining show
I highly recommend you check out these attractions, maybe while you’re waiting for your Fastpass time for one of the bigger rides, you will take that time and try something new?

We love Magic of Disney Animation! It is so much fun learning how to draw the characters. I really don’t like drawing anything and leaving the Magic of Disney Animation I felt like I could draw anything! There is often a wait, since they only let a group in once every 30 minutes but it was worth the wait! It deserves a well earned placed on any disney bucket list.
