Universal Orlando Resort and roller coaster manufacturer Mack Rides are facing a lawsuit involving Stardust Racers at Epic Universe after a mother alleged her minor son lost consciousness and suffered serious injuries while riding the attraction in October 2025.

According to court records, Jennifer Lundy originally filed the lawsuit in Orange County Circuit Court on August 17, 2026, naming Universal City Development Partners and Mack Rides as defendants. The case was moved to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on September 18. The lawsuit alleges that Lundy’s son, identified in court documents as L.L., lost consciousness due to forces experienced while riding Stardust Racers on October 13, 2025. The complaint claims that while unconscious, the child lacked head, neck, and upper-body support and subsequently suffered injuries to his head, face, spine, and other orthopedic injuries. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
One important point of context is the coaster’s restraint system. Stardust Racers uses a lap-bar restraint rather than an over-the-shoulder restraint, a design also found on a number of modern high-thrill roller coasters, including Universal Orlando’s Jurassic World VelociCoaster. The absence of a shoulder restraint by itself does not establish that a ride is unsafe or improperly designed. Modern coaster restraints are engineered and tested as part of the complete ride system, and different manufacturers use different restraint configurations depending on the attraction’s design. Universal’s own accessibility guidance also requires guests to meet specific rider requirements and notes that restraints must function properly for a guest to ride.

The lawsuit alleges that Universal and Mack Rides failed to operate, design, maintain, or control the attraction in a reasonably safe manner and failed to adequately warn riders of potential risks. Lundy is seeking more than $50,000 in damages along with compensation for medical treatment and other alleged losses. At this stage, those claims represent the plaintiff’s allegations. The publicly available federal docket confirms the lawsuit and the defendants, but it does not establish liability.
