Universal Pictures First Studio To Cross $5 Billion Mark in 2026
Universal Pictures is having one blockbuster year, becoming the first movie studio to cross the $5 billion mark at the worldwide box office in 2026.

The milestone comes after several major releases helped propel Universal to the top of this year’s global box office. Leading the charge is The Odyssey, which has earned more than $1.73 billion worldwide and become the highest-grossing Universal Pictures film of all time.
Universal also found billion-dollar success with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael, giving the studio three of the five movies that have crossed $1 billion worldwide so far this year. The other two are Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5. Other Universal releases, including Obsession and Minions & Monsters, have also contributed to the studio’s massive 2026 total.
And Universal is not finished at the box office just yet. Forgotten Island, Other Mommy, and Sense and Sensibility are still scheduled for release before the end of 2026, giving the studio more opportunities to add to its already impressive worldwide haul.
The success also comes during a period of major growth for Universal beyond the movie theater, with its films and franchises continuing to play a significant role across Universal’s theme parks. From Super Nintendo World to the Minions, Universal has increasingly turned its big-screen characters and stories into experiences guests can step inside.
