Celebrate The Magic of Disney Animation Opening with Rare Characters
The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has officially opened its doors, and Disney marked the occasion with an extraordinary celebration! In a scene reminiscent of the acclaimed short film Once Upon a Studio, 60 Disney characters assembled outside the attraction for a massive, rare group photo.
A Rare Picture Day at the Studios
Gathered right outside the entrance beneath the iconic Sorcerer Mickey hat, the lineup brought together generations of Disney Animation history.
The photo featured beloved characters who host dedicated meet-and-greets inside the building’s new Off the Page! area—such as Mulan, Rapunzel, Donald, Daisy, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Goofy, and Stitch. However, the real head-turners were the deep-cut, rarely seen characters brought out specifically for this milestone:
- Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
- Bernard and Miss Bianca (The Rescuers)
- Bolt
- Merlin (The Sword in the Stone)
- Milo Thatch and Kida (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
- Yzma (The Emperor’s New Groove)
Disney has confirmed that characters will continue to roam and interact spontaneously throughout the courtyard, giving parkgoers hope that some of these rare fan favorites might pop up for unannounced surprise appearances.

Paying Homage to Animation History
In addition to the character gathering, Disney shared a creative tribute poster inspired by multiplane camera technology—a foundational innovation in animation history. By layering flat character cutouts on sticks in front of The Magic of Disney Animation entrance, the artwork achieves a physical 3D depth effect that bridges classic craftsmanship with modern park storytelling.
