Tower of Terror Covered in Scaffolding at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The iconic exterior of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is now almost completely enclosed in scaffolding as Disney continues an extensive exterior refurbishment of the 199-foot structure.
What began as minor work above the attraction’s exit gift shop earlier this summer has expanded into a massive project. Scaffolding and protective scrims now reach all the way to the top of the tower, completely covering the front elevation, upper roofline, and the legendary “Hollywood Tower Hotel” marquee sign.
Behind the scaffolding, crews have already begun repainting and refreshing structural details:
- Fresh Paint & Detailing: Fresh pink paint has been applied to decorative roof friezes and sections of the tower walls.
- Balcony Work: Primer and gray touch-ups are visible along balconies, chimneys, and surrounding architectural accents.
- Protective Barriers: Red plastic wrapping currently protects open windows and wall cutouts while work progresses.
Despite the imposing temporary look of the building’s exterior, the attraction remains fully operational.
Riders won’t miss out on the thrilling drop sequence, either—Imagineers left open gaps in the scaffolding grid specifically around the elevator shaft doors so guests still get their iconic view overlooking the park before plummeting back down into the Twilight Zone.
Disney has not announced an official end date for the exterior restoration, but work is expected to wrap up ahead of the busy holiday season.
