Test Track Sliding Doors Return More Than a Year After EPCOT Crash

A familiar effect has finally shifted back into gear at EPCOT, as the sliding doors leading into Test Track’s outdoor high-speed section are operating once again. The doors had remained disabled for more than a year following an incident during Cast Member previews on June 30, 2025.

During the preview incident, a Test Track vehicle struck the doors as it approached the attraction’s outdoor section. The panels are constructed from breakaway foam to help limit damage in situations like this, but the effect was turned off afterward. Since then, riders have had a clear view outside as they accelerated through the final indoor scene.

The doors originally helped create one of Test Track’s most memorable moments, making it appear that the vehicle was racing toward a solid barrier before the panels opened at the last second. The current version of the attraction no longer uses the same barrier-test storyline, but the doors still help block outdoor light from spilling into the final interior scene.

Now that the effect has returned, the doors appear to open earlier in the acceleration sequence than they did before the crash. That means the dramatic near-miss feeling is not quite as intense, but it does restore another layer of show lighting and separation between the indoor and outdoor portions of the ride.
