Central Florida Zoo Sloths Dolce and Chewie Released From ICU as Recovery Continues

Two tiny tree-huggers at the Central Florida Zoo are continuing their fight to recover after being rescued in heartbreaking condition. The zoo shared an encouraging update announcing that sloths Dolce and Chewie have officially been cleared from the ICU and are now stable while recovering in quarantine. The update was posted alongside adorable photos of the pair hanging upside down and peeking curiously at the camera, instantly melting the internet one fuzzy nose at a time.

According to the Central Florida Zoo, Dolce and Chewie were among several sloths that arrived under extremely poor conditions. While the two are showing signs of improvement, zoo officials cautioned that their situation can still change at any moment as recovery continues.

The case has drawn significant attention after reports revealed that dozens of sloths connected to the situation had died. A total of 56 sloths reportedly perished before rescue efforts brought surviving animals into professional care.

In their update, the zoo described Dolce and Chewie as “fighters” and said both animals are continuing to battle every day as staff carefully monitor their progress.

The photos shared by the zoo show the pair appearing alert and calm while resting among branches and greenery inside their recovery habitat. One sloth hangs upside down while peeking through leaves, while the other appears to pose directly for the camera like the world’s slowest celebrity headshot.

For animal lovers across Central Florida, the update offers at least a small ray of hope in an otherwise difficult story. Supporters have flooded social media with messages cheering on the pair as they continue their recovery journey one very slow step at a time.
