Imagineering Files New Construction Permit for Former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Site
The next chapter for the former Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is quietly taking shape. Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new construction permit tied to the property, signaling continued progress as the site transitions from its short-lived hotel experience into a hub for future Disney projects.

This latest permit is for 211 S Studio Drive, which refers to an adjacent administration building rather than the main Starcruiser structure itself. The filing lists Balfour Beatty as the contractor for “general construction,” a familiar name tied to previous permits for the site. Like most permits, this one carries a one-year expiration window, suggesting ongoing phased work rather than a single large-scale overhaul.
Once complete, the reimagined space will serve as office space for Walt Disney Imagineering, supporting major projects across Walt Disney World. That includes upcoming developments like Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the Frontierland expansion featuring Piston Peak National Park and Disney Villains Land at Magic Kingdom.

The Starcruiser originally opened on March 1, 2022, offering a first-of-its-kind immersive “cruise-style” adventure in a galaxy far, far away. While praised for its storytelling and live entertainment, the experience struggled with its premium price point and ultimately closed on September 30, 2023. Now, instead of hosting voyages aboard the Halcyon, the site is being repurposed to help build the future of Walt Disney World.
