Get ready to put your journey on hold, because Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland is scheduled to close for refurbishment on September 2, 2025. The Disneyland Resort website confirms the closure, but a reopening date has not yet been announced. This is a bit unusual, as the park usually doesn’t have a major attraction closed for a long period between the Halloween and Christmas seasons.
The “wildest ride in the wilderness” joins its Walt Disney World counterpart, which closed in January 2025 and is not expected to reopen until 2026. This has led to speculation about coordinated maintenance between the parks and what the extended refurbishment might entail for both attractions. There have also been rumors that the Disneyland attraction will not reopen until 2026.
