Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Is Going Full Puppet in Season 4—With Help from the Jim Henson Company
Strange New Worlds is boldly going where only the fluffiest have gone before. During the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ dropped a delightful bombshell: Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will feature a full-on puppet episode—crafted by none other than Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

According to reporting by The Nerdist, Captain Pike and crew are getting the fuzzy treatment in an episode directed by Jordan Canning, who previously worked on Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock. While we don’t yet know how or why the U.S.S. Enterprise crew ends up in puppet form, we do know one thing: it’s going to be glorious.
Puppet Pike Takes Command
Fans got their first taste of the madness via a teaser from “Puppet Pike” himself, hinting at the episode’s tone and style. If the reaction in Hall H was anything to go by, audiences are fully onboard with this wacky warp-speed detour.
Season 4 has already wrapped filming, even though Season 3 just started airing last week on Paramount+. The upcoming puppet episode seems to build on the show’s recent legacy of playful experimentation. Remember last season’s full-blown musical episode? This crew clearly took a page from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer playbook—and we’re not mad about it.
Trek + Henson = Galactic Gold
This collaboration between Star Trek and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop feels like a match made in nerd heaven. Henson puppets have long been a staple of imaginative storytelling, from The Dark Crystal to Sesame Street, and now they’re suiting up for Starfleet.
At the panel, executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman were joined by cast members Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, and Paul Wesley. Fans were also treated to an exclusive early screening of a third season episode titled “A Space Adventure Hour,” a holodeck romp paying tribute to the entire Star Trek franchise.
And yes, there’s even a dazzling new poster for that episode—because no Trek tribute is complete without something to hang on your ready room wall.

Strange New Worlds: The Final Frontier (Eventually)
Sadly, Paramount+ has already confirmed that Strange New Worlds will end with a shortened fifth season. But don’t set phasers to sad just yet—we’ve still got plenty of episodes (and one very fuzzy detour) to enjoy before then.
As one of the best-reviewed Trek series in years, Strange New Worlds continues to push boundaries while honoring the heart and hope of the franchise. Puppet versions of Spock and Chapel? A bar full of felt Klingons? A Gorn made entirely of googly eyes and green yarn? We can only dream.
Whatever the context, the puppet episode promises to be another bold—and utterly charming—entry in the show’s ever-growing legacy of risk-taking fun.
Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently streaming on Paramount+. Puppet chaos awaits next season!
