Amazon Levels Up Again: ‘Wolfenstein’ TV Series in Development From ‘Fallout’ Producer and Patrick Somerville
Get ready to lock and load, as another iconic video game franchise is gearing up for the small screen. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Wolfenstein TV series, and it’s packing some serious firepower behind the scenes. Variety reports that the new series is being spearheaded by none other than Patrick Somerville, the creative force behind Station Eleven and Maniac. Somerville will serve as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer via his chaoticgood.tv banner. He’s teaming up with Fallout producers Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham through Kilter Films, the same dream team that brought post-apocalyptic thrills to Prime Video with Fallout (now gearing up for its second and third seasons).

While details are being kept tightly under wraps, the official tagline is as bold as it is brief:
“The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.”
And if you know Wolfenstein, that tagline is pitch-perfect.
What Is Wolfenstein, Anyway?
If you’re not familiar with Wolfenstein, it’s one of the OG first-person shooter franchises—basically, the great-granddaddy of run-and-gun Nazi-blasting video games. The series centers on U.S. soldier William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, a grizzled World War II badass who takes on a twisted version of history where the Nazis are dabbling in occult rituals, sci-fi weapons, and other nightmarish experiments in their quest for domination.
From its humble beginnings as the top-down Castle Wolfenstein in 1981 to the genre-defining Wolfenstein 3D in 1992, all the way through the slickly rebooted games developed by MachineGames in recent years (The New Order, The New Colossus, and the VR title Cyberpilot), the series has maintained a cult following—and a whole lot of Nazi body counts.

The Team Behind the Mayhem
In addition to Somerville and Kilter Films, executive producers include James Altman of Keyframe Films and Jerk Gustafsson from MachineGames, the current stewards of the franchise. This marks yet another high-profile video game adaptation for Amazon, which is already developing shows based on Mass Effect, God of War, and Warhammer 40,000 (starring Henry Cavill).
Somerville, who’s been a longtime fan of the games, is no stranger to genre storytelling. He’s also worked on The Leftovers, 24: Live Another Day, and The Bridge, and he’s an accomplished novelist with a penchant for mind-bending narratives—perfect for the surreal, alt-history world of Wolfenstein.
Amazon and Kilter’s recent success with Fallout proves they know how to translate beloved game IPs into high-quality, binge-worthy television. If Wolfenstein follows suit, we might be looking at Prime Video’s next major hit.
