Hurricane Helene Forces Walt Disney World to Close Typhoon Lagoon, Other Closures Possible

As Hurricane Helene gains strength and approaches Florida, Walt Disney World has initiated its first closures in preparation for the storm’s impact. Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and the resort’s mini-golf courses will be closed on Thursday, September 26, 2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of guests and Cast Members. Disney’s other water park, Blizzard Beach, is already closed for its annual refurbishment.

The decision to close Typhoon Lagoon for the entire day comes as Tropical Storm Helene is expected to bring hazardous conditions to Central Florida, including the Walt Disney World area. The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the region, anticipating heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding. With wind gusts of up to 60 mph and several inches of rainfall predicted, outdoor operations like Typhoon Lagoon are deemed unsafe.

While Typhoon Lagoon is the only confirmed closure at this time, Disney is closely monitoring the storm’s progress and may announce additional closures or operational changes in the coming hours. Guests with plans to visit other Walt Disney World parks, including Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, are encouraged to stay updated through the My Disney Experience app for real-time information on any potential disruptions.
